I remember the era of cheap and plentiful deuces, and it was great. Now it appears to be the era of somewhat less cheap, but plentiful and good, M939-series 5-ton trucks. This one is great, too! :jumpin:
Are civilian trucks available in configurations remotely comparable to our tactical military trucks? Why should we fault somebody for building a versatile work machine out of a $10k surplus tactical military vehicle, rather than buying a shiny $100k over the road truck with less capability? I...
I have contemplated retrofitting my M923 with commercial-style door locks, compartment locks and keyed ignition switch. I haven't done it yet, and it won't even make sense until I get a hard top for it. Here's a manufacturer that I found a while back who makes commercial door locks as used on...
I just had an idea. I recently bought a pair of bumper-mounted swing-away Ibis Tek carriers for my HMMWV. One's a spare tire carrier, and the other's a jerry can carrier that will hold four cans. I think I'll need to modify the bumper mounting to move the bumper a few inches aft so that they can...
Welcome to the site, and good luck with your new truck!
I agree that the condition codes are rarely helpful in making meaningful decisions. When an organization turns in an item to be reissued or surplussed out, they need to assign a code. If they assigned a code that indicates the truck is a...
I have seen those wire rope suspended steps on telephone and power service trucks around here. I think that style was shown on the web page I linked to, also. I wonder how flexible they are? The cables are awfully thick.
Are you talking about the part that is mounted on the thermostat housing (top of the engine, where the upper radiator hose attaches), and which has an air line leading from it to the fan clutch? Well, I'm having a hard time finding that one in the TMs, but I don't think it's that pressure...
If my memory is correct, the underside of my S-280-sized shelter has three rails on the bottom, each running from front to back. One along each edge, and one down the center. It has a separate set of mounting points installed on the ends for attaching a mobilizer dolly, when installed in a truck...
Hmm, the air bag approach sounds promising to me. I would make sure to find some way to spread the load along the shelter's bottom rails, because I think they were expected to sit on flat surfaces like truck beds or level ground, so they may not deal well with point loads. This is in contrast to...
I would spray soapy water on every air fitting I could find, looking for bubbles. Also, don't overlook the glad hands at the front of the truck (especially the emergency one), in case the shutoff valves are leaking. Good luck!
