The hydraulic motor on my M936A1's hoist is leaking hydraulic fluid. As far as I can tell from the TMs, it's considered a disposable piece since I haven't found documentation of internal repairs or internal repair parts.
Have any of y'all had good luck opening up one of these gear pump style...
I forgot to mention the standard wisdom for the M1009 and its relatives: If it's electrical, clean it. If it's rubber, replace it.
I also have developed a deep and abiding hatred for the rear window mechanism.
I don't mind the power train at all. I haven't driven my CUCVs much yet, but it's...
AHA! This is the thread that I was replying to at the moment that the site went down!
Ok, hopefully this doesn't crash the site again:
I'd say electrical problems, especially in the instrument cluster where a bad bulb contact can make parts of the truck quit working in unexpected ways.

Agreed, fully. I would prefer something that is a good, happy compromise between the less-computer-savvy folks and the wired-up-all-the-time folks. I don't know what options exist, though.
Maybe we could use something like a SteelSoldiers channel on some existing chat site, such as an IRC server? I don't know if web-based front-ends are available for IRC. My vote would be for a chat feature which has broad compatibility with PCs, tablets and smartphones, accessible from either a...

You kids...
Hooray! The site is back! It went down right as I was posting a reply, and then I found out it was back up mere seconds ago when I got a subscribed thread email. I was already going through withdrawal 15 minutes into the outage.
Hey, is there some other forum or twitter hashtag or something...
I'm curious about what systems that power supply went with. It is WW2 vintage. I've asked about it on a military radio collector mailing list that I'm on, so maybe an answer will come up there.
The GL pictures show a shaft with some U joints dangling underneath. Would that be a steering shaft, mechanically coupled to the steering wheel?
Does anybody know the dimensions of the pads underneath that appear to be destined to sit on frame rails?
Why am I asking? It's not like I'd ever...
Ah, I almost forgot. I have some questions for you rigging experts. Is it OK to use anti-seize compound on the sleeve threads when I assemble the clevis end? About how much torque is appropriate for the sleeve? Are there any other details I should know about? Should I untwist each of the six...
Cool, I'll read through that thread today. Am I going to be sorry that I didn't bid on one of those zillions of M931 tractors yesterday for its frame and powertrain?
