I was just kidding about the gloves. I work on my trucks naked so I don't get my clothes dirty, then I just hose myself off with some farm diesel when I'm done. The red 164 dye keeps my cheeks nice and rosy.
:grd:
I don't have any new gaskets. I'm planning to use RTV, just as it was apparently sealed when I took it off. I bought a tube of RTV at Pep Boys that's supposed to be especially good for gear oil that I'll try using for both the filter and a leaking axle flange seal.
It's amazing how fast those...
One of my tasks for this weekend is draining my wrecker's hydraulic fluid, servicing the filter, putting it back together and refilling the fluid. I'm reusing the old fluid, but I'm pumping it through a spin-on hydraulic fluid filter on the way back in, then adding more to top it up. I'll...
Here are some pictures. The old cable is off, and I need to clean up the drum and get inside the gearbox. It turns out that the lower sheave at the base of the boom isn't turning, so I'll need to free that up. That was probably the main cause of my cable not spooling out under the weight of the...
That tank does not look like the tanks on either of my M939-series trucks. All three of their tanks (1 tank on my M923, 2 tanks on my M936A1) have fillers which point straight up rather than mounted at an angle like on your tank.
Your tank will probably work for your generator once you figure...
These look like the right end fittings, but I still need to verify the clevis pin size:
Esmet, Manufacturer of Tufloc High Security Products, Electroline Wire Rope Terminations and Tufloc High Security Locks
They make similar fittings for synthetic wire rope, so that end shouldn't be a problem...
My first task for this long weekend is to remove the old, rusty cable from my M936A1 wrecker's crane. I could probably get the old cable working more smoothly by lubricating it and working it back and forth, but 100' of new wire rope just cost about $220, so I'll just replace it instead.
Once I...
If the government sold you a knife with the blood of a murder victim on it, you still don't want to get caught with that bloody knife in your possession.
If you legitimately buy a government truck with traces of dye in the tank and/or filters but you only buy taxed fuel for it, and then you get...
I found a reference to an actual lab test of ATF at this address:
?dye in atf? - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums
Of particular interest:
So this tells me:
ATF and farm diesel use the same red dye: red 164
Dye concentration in ATF is much higher than in farm diesel
I don't...
I don't see any legal distinction between running a multifuel on ATF for on-road use vs. running a pickup on farm diesel for on-road use. Both are examples of the exact same violation: Tax evasion.
I'm not saying that either should be OK or that either should be restricted. I'm just saying that...
I picked up an M35A2C several years ago from March ARB (back when they still had DRMO/GL sales there) that had red fuel in the tank.
The fuel in my most recent purchases (M923 and M936A1 out of Barstow) looks clear yellow through the filler cap, but I should check it more carefully. I have new...
I doubt that adding green dye will work. It might make the fuel look like some color other than red to the naked eye, but if they send a sample to a lab and run a spectrograph plot, the red and green dyes will show up as distinct spikes.
I also don't see what grounds the OP's friend has to...
