Found this thread helpful as I am slowly working towards doing the same on my 1009, spending quite some time just trying figure where to buy the correct pump from, and still don't know...
Might have a line on some axles for ya, nothing solid yet but met a guy that said he would trade a set of 1 ton axles geared for a Cummins for the W400 axles. He is supposed to come check out the M886 this week & I'll get more info on this at that time.

If you go with 31's it should make the speedo/odo correct, the 33's would read about 6% lower than actual.

Fuel mileage???? aside from the motorcycle my 1009 gets better mileage than anything else I have, lol
It was a gummed up sticking return line check valve, after cleaning, it literally is clear! and running good so far.
A couple had recommended breaking the glass check valve, but as I said it was like it was getting too much fuel in the return. So I wasn't about to break ****.
I believe I may have a injection pump issue. Definitely related to the fuel return. 84 M1009

It has boiled down to just the ones where there is some discrepancy, i.e. incorrect year, model, being listed as Hummer & not Am General, etc. With any M998 getting the most scrutiny.
Just be sure to dot your i's & cross your t's as the saying goes.

I had an issue like that years back, I took a fishing pole (yep you saw that correctly) hooked the leader into the lifter, removed the cam, lowered the lifter, reached through cam bearings with a spring loaded grabber and pulled it through (very gently at each bearing)
