Jeffhuey, That's a nice looking project! I love the cab shape of those old timers!
Please tell us more about that pair of telescoping gantries: Brand, retail location and approx price. Those look like a great solution for lifting cabs and beds offa trucks!

Sounds like an easy swap:
Shorten or extend existing gasser motor wires as needed.
Ignition coil power can be routed to the IP shutoff.
Swap in the oil and temp senders from the gasser into the 6.2.
Run a new GP circuit.
That should about do it.

That tire iron in your hands is clearly incongruous with the task at hand! I bet that was a staged photo, designed to fish for a reply, such as mine!
Carry on,

A periodic inspection of the belts, followed by a check in the fan deflection could possibly avoid the disastrous results depicted!!! Or maybe not!
Anyway, thanks for bringing up another point of failure on our beloved OD.

In stock form its better to have some weight on the rear axle, such that a cargo truck may have a lower CG, but the ambulance has more weight, and thus better traction. In the end, how you build it is a compromise that suits your objectives.
Welcome! Once you get past the filters and fuel delivery test diagnosis, there is the turbo boost to check and the injection pump metering to sus out.
Cheers,
Rick
That's what I was thinkin: A body swap onto a modern rollin chassis. It would be so much easier and the chassis will be engineered to work together.

I'm prolly a bit slow on the uptake, given this vid and song have been out for 20 years, but does anyone out there have an ID for the MV in this Republica video?
I'm not to savvy, but here's a glimpse of what I saw. The entire video has brief shots of the vehicle as a back drop, but the video...
I suggest you isolate all possible components that may contain a short, then hook up the batteries (correctly!) and add one component at a time, meanwhile monitoring for magic smoke loss.

What part of Ma are you from? Depending on your area labor costs, you should be able to modify the existing drive shaft for about $200.
If you purchased a cargo truck vs a tractor, you could shorten the stock bed and save more cashola. Mostly your expenditures would be welding gas, rod and...
You might consider the Mercedes Benz 1017 5 ton or the Unimog 425 2 1/2 ton ex military trucks. Both are available at government auction in Europe and are standard platforms for expedition vehicles all over the world.
I believe that company you mentioned in Utah has experience with the 1017. I...
I'm not saying it's the case, but I have had the experience of having a master cylinder fail on me during the bleeding process. Pumping the master cylinder out of it's normal operating range can cause the internal seals to fail, due to trash in the bore or pitted surfaces.
