I have found that mainstream axle specialists (Randy's, Currie) have excellent coverage and better prices for Dana axle parts. Military parts houses sometimes purchase from said suppliers and mark things up a bit.

Your first post had a drawing where the line would have been passing through a sheave half way up the headboard. That would have required some serious strengthening of the headboard, for sure.
Your current plan, as described, makes more sense and will require zero hardening of the headboard and...
Ty, Will you still be running a fairlead? How high off the bed will the winch line exit the winch/fairlead?
I'm interested to hear (or eventually see, ahem!) how you will strengthen the bed to withstand the winching efforts.

I think some of us are confusing a runaway condition with an engine that runs backwards. The runaway engine is turning the correct direction while consuming an external fuel source, usually lubricating oil. The reverse running engine is running on the ordinary fuel supply. In my opinion they are...
Hello Stefan, Thank you for having the courage for building your muscle, hahaha!
I hope you post more photos of your truck and your hometown. We always like to see military trucks and where they are being used!
Cheers,
Rick
I haven't spliced a cable but I have fabricated a pivot lever that goes between the cables. The single arm lever maintains the pull/pull orientation (vs a bellcrank that reverses the pull into a push) and you can increase or decrease the effective travel by locating the two cables relative to...
I suggest you first confirm the PTO shaft turns the winch.
Could there e any chance you are mistaken about the shear pin? As in both ends are visible in the yoke, but the yolk is spinning on the winch input shaft?
Could the axle be not completely installed in the differential? That would cause it to stick out and become clamped between the inner knuckle and the spindle.

What were you using previously?
My suggestion is: Watch out!!! When you get the 5 ton stuck, it's stuck!!!
Best wishes and welcome to the OD club. What will your next military truck purchase be?

The OM352 is a long stroke motor, so it may not compare favorably to the shorter stroke civvy car engine. In my case described above, I was able to dump the clutch and stall the engine, but that was after a few seconds (it seemed like a minute!) of confusion and assessment of the situation.

I'd love to follow your lead on fitting a SC to your truck. I've imagined fitting a SC to many of my projects, yet I've never actually done any of them.
If you proceed, please post up on your calculations, compressor mapping, pulley ratios and other design considerations! I'd love to see your...
