The chain idea was some peoples attempt at stopping roll over, but it didn't really work. The best thing in a M151 is to not take turns 75 deg. or more above 20 mph. When I was more involved with M151s I use to tell people if a dog runs out in front of you don't swerve to miss the dog...run it...
You can see what I've done so far right here. http://www.leathernaturally.com/m37project.htm
Just so everyone is aware this is not a M880 series truck but it's much older brother the M37.
It looks like you actually have a M825 TOW Missile Jeep. The gas can holder on the drivers front cowl and the spare tire holder on the passenger side door area are the big clues. Here is a link with some more info. https://olive-drab.com/idphoto/id_photos_m825rr.php
Nice battle wagon you...
Yep that was a base runner. Might have even been used for crew shuttle. Got some work cut out for you but it shouldn't be to bad of a project to get done. The 360 was probably the motor that came with the truck and it wouldn't put it past me if it was ordered in from the gov. with the 2 barrel...
Well, the project is still very stalled and a long way from being close to complete or even in paint. I decided I'm not going to do USAF OD on the truck but 3 color Nato Camo. As time has gone on my ideas for the project have changed or morphed. Thanks.
The M135/211 brakes if working properly with stop on a dime and give you back 9 cents change. The system is very good provided everything is working properly. Unless you are planning on driving the truck everyday I wouldn't worry about splitting the system. Make them work good and enjoy.
Yep put a good coat of flat forest green on it and get some phone stuff that was suppose to be in the truck and take it to the shows. Or give it to me if you can't work on it....lol!
The 5 ton will pull that duce with no problems, but as porky said pull the drive shafts. It is very easy to leave the transfer case in gear and you'll burn it up flat towing it. Trust me I learned the hard way. With the drive shafts pulled it should be an easy pull. Also is that a gas M54 or a...
Nice find. It might have been a contract truck used for base maintenance or something like that so it makes it "a military" vehicle. Fix it up, paint it a new coat of OD and enjoy. Keep posting pictures of your progress.
Check your valves and your timing make sure something hasn't gone out of whack. Also with the 302 check to see if you have a exhaust manifold leak. On the 302 it's not a matter of if you will have one but when.
Well that takes me back to my original statement of betting a delivery truck box and putting that on. Should give you lots of leg room. Basically the same as a cracker box truck just not connected through the cab.
God love you Nathan. You are a good man for taking on such a project, but if the truck can be saved then it is worth it. You will probably have to fabricate the bed since it's gone on the truck! Wish I lived closer I would totally be spending time helping you if I could, but OH to CA is a...
The issued riffle mount that was designed for the M14/M16 will work with just about any riffle/shotgun. I've seen folks put and M1 in them, Mossburg 590's Remington 870s etc. Want additional to the one mount just put in two.
