Wow congrats on finding your grandfathers truck. I think the excavator was put on the truck after it left the military. That truck looks like it has sat for some time so you have your work cut out making it drivable. Good luck and yes more pictures please.
Why do the squirrels like to store their nuts on the exauhst manifold? Nothing like getting your mutt out from under covers and taking it for it's first run of spring only to have the smell or achorns rosting as you drive. Don't ask how I know this..... ;)
The axle swap on the GMC is not practical. Fabing up disks would be less expensive, but if you plan on doing 12 trucks I hope they gave those trucks to you so you are at least not out any money right now. As for the brake system they went with.... Not totally safe, but I also would bet that...
If I was going to upgrade the brakes on a M211 (which will stop on a dime and give 8.5 cents change BTW in stock configuration) I think I would look at the braking systems on things like GM Top Kick or other heavy duty trucks. Also instead of going to NAPA for the parts I would truck a truck...
$400.00 for what's pictured? Go for it! The only thing missing from that is the oil lines. And it sounds like you could get them from the guy selling the stuff. Not a bad price for turbo, intake and exhuast!
I like the satilite dish attached to the front grill... But seriously Nice truck! Someone went to a lot of work to civilianize it. Now you'll have a lot of work to make it military again?
Both truck seem to be in fairly good shape considering the civilian life they have had. They are your trucks and do with them as you wish, but if it was me I would sell it to someone who wanted to restore it then modify it. But that's just me. If you decide to modify it then all I can say is...
Sorry to see that. For what you spend in labor to rebuild that trans you could get one that was actually stored with oil in it. You can always put another trans on and then rebuild that one at your leisure. I think the -34 tells how to rebuild the trans, but I'm going from memory and not...
If I was closer and had the money I would buy them even if I used one to fix up the other. I love the ride of the M211 over the M35. There are motor and trans modifications that can be made to them if you want speed. Or in stock form they are great truck also just don't expect to break any...
