The VPW top seems to be an exact replica of the steel stock GI hard top. I don't think the bows are needed for it....but check with them. If it is an exact match to the original then I would thin the fit would be about the same...that being that the GI top fit marginally well all things...

White smoke generally means antifreeze issues with the motor. Might want to look at that instead of the transmission. Trans leak is usually a sign of the truck marking its territory.
