What kind of life can you get out of a 923 with a NHC250?

The NHC250 is the baby of the N14 series engines, used in many 18 wheelers in the 80's and 90's. Not uncommon to find that series with around 1 million miles and still going. Cold weather starting is really the biggest problem the engine has, it's an ether baby.

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Stopped for fuel, an initial 35 gallons to top off the driver side tank. Road trip home went well, cruised at 55mph (2000 rpm). Stopped twice to check the hubs/tires by hand. the Passenger side rear hub was a little bit warmer than the others but nothing was hot. Tires are a little out of...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Just got my wrecker insured today, not near as much as I was expecting after reading the wrecker/insurance threads. Will be driving it home this evening

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Have the wrecker mobile under its' own power, now I'm looking for insurance. Also dragged this little guy home that will be useful for the wrecker. Will be used as storage for the DT466, 2 tcases, and a 5th wheel for awhile.

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

I've got an old 5 ton dump truck that would suite well on a farm.... Need to get one more set of stakes/bow for the cargo cover then get it cut to size, have a few ideas going through my head on how to use it for a sun shade when working.

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Will be that way for awhile, at least 2 years. You're right though the truck is a basic mobile shop by design haha. Crane, air power, torch, vise, tool storage. Main things it's missing are a welder, press, ac power, proper workbench, and protection from the elements. Does give me an idea...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Haha I've read that no matter how big a crane is you always need one longer. Most of the missing wrecker BII will be here in about a month, would like to get the storage setup for all those parts and my hand tools this summer. Truck is serving as my mobile tool box until I have a shop of my...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

I prefer bee's anyday over a wasp or hornet. Usually not as hostile and at least they serve a purpose. Well last friday finished up the hub flip and wheel end service and 395's swap finally. Went to the local hardware store to get a 1 gallon garden sprayer to build into a pressure bleeder and...

Converting the multi-fuel to pure diesel...

Cummins 6bt is able to run on straight veggy oil and they are either 16 or 17:1. So at 18:1 it wouldn't be a concern with oil. Yes I'm familiar with the minimum for a diesel engine being 16:1, and that gassers are much lower compression.

    Ugly Birdsnest on Winch

The cable on my front winch was like that (my cable is trashed).

Converting the multi-fuel to pure diesel...

i wonder if lowering the compression to 18:1 would affect the ability to burn gasoline? would allow for higher boost from a more efficient turbo leading to higher power and still burn all the other fuels

Catastrophic Ibis Tek tow bar failure; snapped like a twig.

From what I've read in other towbar failure posts it seems to be an issue of having the steering secured when the towed truck is on super singles. When Gunzy towed my old m35a2 on 395's with his m923 using a heavy towbar, it snapped the smaller bolts on the shackle mount of the deuce during a...

Very little difference. M-ATV was fielded as part of the 'free for all' when the military needed MRAP's from multiple manufactures after command accepted that those in combat needed armor, such as the JERRV's, Caiman, RG series........ The JLTV was the updated model that won the contract for...

    315/75r16 fit stock m1008

You'll have to trim. Largest that will fit stock without trimming and allow full axle articulation is 32x12.5". If you're willing to trim (alot) you can fit the humvee 37"s at stock height. That's what I run on my 82 k20

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Thanks, been working on the truck awhile and ready to actually drive it haha. That's Valence's m105. I was going to hook it up to the wrecker as a prank, but he left the pintle locked :( Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Couple things done to the truck last week. Installed new soft brake lines in the rear, tried to remove the front ones but the nuts were wanting to round off so I'll let them soak in PB blaster for awhile then try again. Bled the brakes, then drove the truck down to the street, flipped around...
