for that money, heads from an mid 80's 5.2 cop car and and rv cam will make some good torque with the 318, but the 8 to 10 mpg will still be there.

Perhaps the injector timing is part of the lack of acceleration, I'll have to read up on that.
I would go with heat, which will expand the lugnut from the stud.
pull the valve stem out of the tire, so the heat doesn't build air pressure. ( this won't help the lug nut, it's just safer)
Jam nuts may work.
