Used the M1008 along with an M1102 to haul 3000 lbs of merch. 1000# per pallet. Took it easy on the trailer and only put one pallet in it, two in the truck. Funny how with all the weight it shifts into high at 25, yet empty and no trailer it winds it up to 35 before hitting high gear.
Loaded it up with just at it's weight capacity with 25 HMMWV airlift bumpers. I usually drag a trailer to load heavier loads but decided to just load the truck today. Springs still have arc left with the load. This truck sure runs good but nature is calling her, trying to turn her back to dirt...
Tried the string alignment this past week and realized "I can't do this" because I have HMMWV rims on the back but couldn't use them up front because of contact with calipers. Decided to attempt the tape measure like I did with the 5-ton and gave 1/4" tow in. Test drove and still pulled hard...
Here's a photo of the rubber boot that covers the parking brake lever assembly underneath. You can see the brake light switch as it is clean from handling and oil.
Sorry, no pics. Oily hands at the time. From underneath the switch is directly below the parking brake lever/handle. There is a rubber cover over the part of the mechanism underneath and the switch is clearly visible on the right (passenger) side of the mechanism, protruding through it. You cant...
Brake warning light was stuck on from parking brake switch. Took it out, shot some WD-40 under the ball bearing and got it working by pushing the bearing in a bunch of times. Put dexron 3 under the ball bearing and put the switch back in and switch functions normal now and brake light goes out...
Giving my 2-man a good go over today I see the transfer case (NP-218) rear output leaking slowly, but a leak is not good regardless. The seal is fine and I read somewhere that the yoke needs replaced as it is letting fluid seep past the splines and out the hole in the end of the yoke. I come up...
Filter filled with fuel, replaced, replumbed, back on the road. When I first got this truck it never left the driveway without a large box of tools. This truck has been so reliable that I just quit carrying them after about a year. Now, two years later it has me putting the tools in again over a...
Had to bypass spin on filter to get home yesterday. The Wix filter started spraying fuel out of a pinhole in the steel case. Unbelievable the strange things that can go wrong with a vehicle. Whooda thunk it? New filter waiting on rain to be kind.
I did try before replacing the tie rod end. I just kinda thought they could point out any other sloppy parts I may have missed. I havn't even tested it on pavement yet. Only gravel roads. At least it feels like the play is gone (or less). I will see if the play is gone tomorrow when I have it on...
