Good news...HAARP has found new funding. They should reopen in about a week. I stopped by there about a week ago and found a small generator running next to the main entrance. Inside I found two glowing faces behind a dim desk lamp in the middle of a large dark control room. They were the...
I think it may be an 'L' like a refueling truck, but not sure. Not being self-propelled may throw it out of that category. I'll see what I can dig up on it later.
I have 3.5", 5.25", AND 8" floppy disk drives and the antique ADP for reading them. I guess I'm a bit of a packrat and rarely throw anything away. PM if you want me to copy them to something modern.
Holy moley, I think I found an 'M'...maybe sort of. Spotted this dumper in Sachs Harbor, NT today and it seems to have a 'C' AND and 'M' designation. Now sure what to make of it. The standard USAF script on the door shows it as 84C49, but then there is an odd second registration number of 84M07...
Unfortunately there is no tracked vehicles section, or my 601 would be there instead of under 'Motorcycles and ATVs'. Since this 'trank' is also not armored, it too would have to be filed under Motorcycles and ATVs.
Would make a pretty awesome moon bounce (E-M-E, not the bouncy castle)! But you can't bid; your ticket has expired.
Meanwhile, speaking of three letter agencies, I have recently started to get a bit of grief over the fist two letters of my govt plates, especially while driving around...
I've had the same problem. I started using notepad to copy and paste CRLFs from. Then a few days ago I started using Firefox for posting here instead of Internet Exploder. All better. There is probably a setting in IE to address it, but I'm not going to bother looking.
HAARP hasn't sold, but it is changing contractors...that is if it ever reopens. And there aren't too many secrets there, either. The main reason it has all of the big scary fences and signs is because the land is 'owned' by the USAF. But most of what goes on there is just atmospheric research...
Yup, he tried to get in, but was denied. If he'd just waited for their annual open house and gone in quietly!:tin hat: The day I was there was their last day of operation. They are closed indefinitely due to lack of funding. There is a small experiment that will be done there later in the year...
Looks to be a standard 3-pin milspec MS bayonet connector, in jam nut receptacle form. Look for an MS number, like MS3114E8-3P, around the barrel/cylinder, or on either side of the flange. I haven't dealt much with the jam nut version, but don't think the number would be on the top side as the...
In my current job I tend to get around. A few years ago it took me to the USAF Space Fence receiving station near Elephant Butte, NM. And last month I ended up at HAARP near Gakona, AK. So I thought you Pingers and BEEPs out there might like to see a few pictures of some really big antennas (uh...
No, and if there were one, I wouldn't advise trying to go that fast. All of that bolted together heavy rubber slinging around at speed is a recipe for disaster. I've had more than one track bust on me, and all you can do is wait for impact or roll. There are some civi snowcats that are not...
I found two more ex-USAF Tuckers recently. They're for sale and the guy wants a very fair price for them. I'm a little cash-poor at the moment (just bought a restored '50s johnnypopper), but hope to add at least one of them to the squadron soon. [thumbzup] I'll put pictures in the MV spotted...
Alas, no. I've been too busy this year jumping between Chile, Alaska, Canadian Yukon and Northwest Territories to get her prep'd. Now it looks like I won't make Weare at all. I've assigned my brother the task of trying to get her ready in my absence, but it's not looking good. He's ex-Army, so...
Like maddawg308 said, hearing and being heard will be a problem. I haven't installed anything yet, so no pictures, but I did purchase a portable FlightCom intercom system from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty. It runs on 9-32V, powered by internal 9V battery or vehicle. You can get the 2-place...
So this one time...
I'm ready to take off in a 152 and call the tower for permission to depart. They say hold for 2 A-10s on the south end of the runway. Hmmm, slow poke A-10s not yet rolling from 3 miles away...I can make that. So I call back and emphasize that I'm prepared for 'immediate'...
