No power steering yet, but I have made provisions for it. The type E compressor I've installed came with an industrial power steering pump mated to the rear of it. I can't afford to do power steering right now, so I made a block off plate ( actually Larry made it) and I put the pump on the shelf...
I would buy it. Any M39 or M44 series cab and doors will fit. Even M809 cabs will fit. This assumes you may find another cab cheap enough to negate the repair of the existing cab.
All M44, M39, M809, and M939 series doors will also fit. Passenger door may need slight trimming to accommodate the...
I'd be interested to hear your perspective on how the 12 valve 6BT isn't a better engine in every aspect, but I don't want to derail the gentleman's thread. The only thing I could think of is that it is a parent bore engine instead of having liners, but they are still well known for lasting over...
Yeah you don't need to replace the whole truck because the engine isn't trustworthy. I'm not sure how you extrapolated that from what I said.
Pretty much any common failure these truck suffer can be fixed with minimal tools in a parking lot. The only one that can't is a catastrophic engine...
I've replaced the ends before. They are a 37° flare steel compression ferrule for 1/4" steel line. Get them on McMaster-Carr. Once you squeeze them down they indent the line and they will spin afterward.
Yes. Not being a d**k, but the engine. You are playing with fire venturing far from home with a multifuel under the hood, and when it slings a rod the tow bill will cost more than the purchase price of the truck.
I've been all over the country in mine and got lucky. Mine pulled a liner and...
If it is blowing the lines out of the nuts, you need to fully seat the lines and tighten them down real tight. It seems like you may not have smashed the ferrules enough to grip the lines and seal.
Yes I have researched them extensively and concluded that they are not the best candidate for this application. The length negates the installation of an air to air charge air cooler, they are much heavier than the Cummins, they still utilize a belt driven compressor, and they have many more...
Hey guys, I know I don't post a whole lot in here anymore, but I thought this project might interest you since this swap is going to become a necessity in the coming years. I will be posting pics and explaining things here as questions arise, but you can also follow the project on my YouTube...
Make sure wire #10 ( 12 gauge lead) is connected to either the battery hot side of the magnetic relay, or the battery hot post on the starter. That is where the whole cab pulls power from. Sometimes the wire or ring terminal breaks at the connection point from age and vibration.
Bring a spare...
I wasn't aware the heads were different. I thought I was just piston and injectors that changed the swirl. I say this because some guys install marine pistons and injectors in on road engines for performance and the spray lands in the right place in the bowl. The pump governor is easy enough to...
Not much difference. Just bolt on ancillary components that are simple to swap. They also have a high nickel block ( stronger alloy), and an extra turbo drain boss which is nice if you decide to run compound turbos. The pistons and injectors are different so you will need to keep that in mind if...
