New motor has not showed up yet. Pulling this apart because it does not free spool. I think the drum is seized to the shaft. If the drum turns so do the drive gears and the motor. Don't think it is supposed to work that way. Was looking at getting a press for a different project, may have a...
Thanks Coug! Hammer and chisel got the key out.
Still cannot get the drum off the shaft. Tried removing the cable and bouncing the shaft end on board to let brute force and gravity. I will not be defeated! Just sharing my frustrations with the joy of fixin it myself. Next I am going to try...
Anybody know how to separate the drum from the shaft? This key is staked and the ends are forked to not come out of the shaft key way. It is now I refuse to be defeated rather than a $$$ line.
Found where the water came in
Should not see light thru a mounting hole. Fixed with JB weld. Still working on getting the drum removed, it is stuck good and the parts diagram is not helpful in showing how the thing comes apart, and the inner webs are not helping me. My GOOGLE-FU is not...
Hadn't thought about soaking the motor. I ordered one last night (and gasket set with oil seal for the motor) less than $500 which meets my rebuild $$$ threshold if that's all it costs. Thanks to all for their inputs.
Hadn't thought about a second winch. Let's see if this repair works.
Here is where the water was Here is where the water wasn't
This is a stuck motor With it removed the winch turns freely, but it won't turn at all.
Gonna get a winch motor and gasket kit (and a ton of brake cleaner to clean...
Well I got the winch pulled after draining the fluids
I did say fluids (water in the lube)
the real fun was not seeing these screws because someone painted over them
of course that was after finding this one hidden behind the drive gear.
At least now I can get it apart and see how bad it is.
My 86 gauge would be fine then start bouncing 200 to 240. I changed both the meter and the sending unit to no avail. For mine I had to install the grounding kit. I started with the sending unit cause it was the less expensive part.

Is that what you are...
Thanks DREDnot, that's only the second positive I have heard on the Ramsey winch. Spent the day going to some local shops looking for someone that had experience repairing winches and it seems we have become the disposable society I keep hearing about. Because it's my first winch project I may...
Wasn't expecting a free ride (considering what I paid to get the truck), more seeing where folks thoughts are on repair vs replace. Also seeing if there are any opinions on the Ramsey winches. Other hobby is HD (short for Hundred Dollars) so I'm used to sticker shock for parts.
Have a Ramsey Winch that is not working.
Can hear the solenoids click but no movement on the cable. Also cannot freewheel the cable. Found a leak on a cover for the worm gear. Needless to say this one is having issues.
So back to the real questions. At what dollar point do you replace...
Replaced the windshield a few months back and Momma keeps asking where the UCMJ warnings went.
Anyone know where to source 2 of these? The inner webs are failing me.
Thanks
