I'd still yank that key switch to prevent any fires down the line, Kascar sells a fuel cutoff keyed switch that ties in-line to the injection pump fuel cutoff wire. This would still let someone crank the truck, but they'd never get it started if there's no power going to the injection pump fuel...
Actually - HPG being as detailed as they are, here is the description for one of the incorrect revisions:
"11614131 IS AFTERMARKET (SILVER BODY WITH LEVER INSTALLED) IT IS ACTUALLY A 5 TON SWITCH (AND CANCELLED NSN IN 2018 ) THAT DOESN'T FIT A HUMVEE AND BURNS OUT STARTERS"
And a snippet from...
This right here is the real deal: https://www.hummerpartsguy.com/SWITCH-IGNITION-WITHOUT-LEVER-24-VOLT_p_24452.html
AM General discontinued a previous version of the switch, don't remember the NSN off the top of my head. That one with the black metal casing and brass colored band is the correct...
Check your actual ignition switch too, I ran through/tested 3 of these before my issues were solved.
My issue was that aftermarket (purchased through both Kascar and Mac) start switches were leaving flea current to the starter in the "run" position, so the bendix was staying engaged on the...
Tried TIG welding aluminum for the first time, man it's a picky ordeal...
I'm making a new chicken shield out of aluminum since the steel one is too heavy for the bearing on my 10 series turret. This is like a feather so far compared to the steel one.
Anyway, I cut the shape out, had it bent...
For all 3 trucks I've touched thus far, I've replaced every single one of those plugs once I've got it out 😂
For under a dollar each at Kascar, ordered a metric ton of them lol
Figured I’d give this a go out of curiosity, used a dremel tool with cutoff discs. Not the most efficient but enough to see what you were getting at. Not really a clean job or anything as I plan on chucking this glass anyway, it has several cracks in it.
Definitely a painstaking process but if...
My testing consisted of leaving the primary 24V lugs disconnected, and then just kicking the bendix out with a bench top power supply hooked to the solenoid positive. I was pretty paranoid with that being my 3rd starter at that point 🤣
I would personally throw the starter in, apply voltage to the solenoid, and just manually watch the bendix engage into the flexplate without actually trying to turn it over. I’d do this in a few spots along then flexplate by manually turning the crankshaft over.
This should at least give you an...
Welp it broke again after about 100 miles, was a fun little experiment if anything lol
Should have the new keys coming in soon, but I still suspect that the cable might have a little too much resistance. If it breaks another key then I’m tempted to just pick up one of those GPS speedometers...
Best bet for a starter I’ve found found is to get a reman original direct drive. New ones run for around $1300 last I saw, reman can be had for around $500 if you dig around.
I unfortunately can’t attest to the performance of those geared non direct starters, or how they mount. I’d love to hear...
The 6.2 and 6.5 use the same flexplate and bolts I believe:
Flexplate: https://www.hummerpartsguy.com/FLYWHEEL-ENGINE-DIESEL_p_1025.html
Bolts: https://www.hummerpartsguy.com/BOLT-FLYWHEEL-DIESEL_p_1142.html
Give HPG a call if you want to be 100% sure but that’s what I was going to swap on my 6.5
@FlameRed It’s a bit of a read but I also suggest reading my thread on this: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/humvee-starter-flexplate-teeth.210931/
I ran into enough stupid issues that I hope many can learn from lol
Hey all, figured I’d share a fun one.
I recently installed a new cable driven 60MPH speedo into my truck. The old one turned into a helicopter although the odometer was still fine.
After I installed the new one, it seemed to be working intermittently for about 2 days, then it quit working...
Anyone ever run a steel chicken shield on a 10 series turret ring/bearing assembly? I welded up a pintle mount to install my shield, but I quickly realized that the turret assembly becomes too front heavy once the shield is installed.
The turret still turns fine without any binding, but the...
Heya, just picked up one of the eyecon HID light kits. I’ve seen some of the installs the rest of you have done on your 5 tons and they look spectacular.
I’ve got 4 light bars and 2 remote spot lights. Hooked it up to test and it seems that I’ve got either a few bad HIDs or ballasts. Some...
I’m lucky enough to have a few the spacers that go on each of the pillars to flatten the door profile instead of it angling inwards on the upper half. I’m missing 2 in case anyone knows of any, don’t remember which side at the moment.
Using a standard x door as a starting point should give you...
Not yet sadly, it’ll be a little bit before I get a chance to get to it in detail. I made a base outline in cad but some measurements didn’t add up and I didn’t like what it turned out as. It’s just a tedious process of trial and error is all.
My M1043A2 build is coming to a close with just...
