Well, to be honest, I only sparsely looked at other options. I'm happy to consider other options, really the reason why this thread exists.
I want the roof to hold a fair bit of weight from below and not give when you walk on it and squares seemed like a good way to go. It's a rather small...
Alright, picked up a Lincoln "Handy" welder, wire feeder.
Right now, my thought is something along the lines of 7 gauge 2x2 for the roof/ceiling (87") and the same for the floor. The roof pieces will be spaced 24" (or 18"?) OC and rest on probably 18 gauge 2x2 for the side frame. On the...
I have about 10 hours with wire feed, and about 100 hours with stick. I have an Amico Tig-225 which I bought to stick weld small stuff, weighs about 25 lbs, very portable, and a Miller Dialarc which weighs 505 lbs and is not very portable. I don't have a good place for the dialarc so it's not...
For half the weight, 3x the price and 3x the deflection I could go with aluminum. So, I would probably save around 500 lbs. Steel tubing will cost around $2k.
I am figuring in a max weight of 3500 lbs in the bed, I don't think I'll need that 500lbs as much as I need that $4k. I'll almost...
So, I'm about a third the way through my 30 point "checklist of fun" and I'm thinking about item 20, the camper.
Is there anyone here that knows more than the average person about structural tubing, aluminum vs steel vs ?? that I can pick their brain with a few questions? I'm also wondering if...
Certainly you have a good reason to work on it now, but I think you should look at the reasons prior to this that have kept you from working on it and the likelihood that those reasons will crop up again. Weigh, also, do you need the money, or can you afford the space and the loss of any value...
You can find them (among other places) at Harbor Freight, at $1/lb. Home Depot also sells it. Probably hunt around and get a better price if you buy a bigger quantity (keep in mind, it will rot if it's not protected) from somewhere.
Yep, visited the mechanic today to drop off a part and talk him into doing more work.
When I got there, he was redoing some air lines and told me he just broke a fuel line. I let him know it's ok, and he can replace any old lines with upgraded lines as necessary. I'm not gonna nit-pic a...
I don't expect to face anything like what's in the vid except maybe in an emergency situation, and if I lose the dryer because of this, I won't mind. I'm not building a rock crawler.
I'll take a look at other deuce frames, do a little research and decide what to do about those bolts near the...
You'll probably go through a couple blue tarps per winter - I switched to white tarps, they're about twice as thick but not twice as expensive. Does anyone use canvas tarps? I would think they would hold up better to the elements, but have never tested one.
Instead of pvc, you could just build...
They are there.
So the spring assemblies are still present, forward of the middle axle, forward of the rigid splash guard. That connection point to the right of where the dryer is, is that supposed to be a spring assembly as well, are all the connection points to the bed supposed to be spring...
I'm not worried about it. If I was to concern myself with the all the possibles of what MIGHT happen, I wouldn't be able to leave the house. What's the problem with bolting to the bed & frame?
So, my deuce is at a shop getting air lockers installed - more detail on this in the thread under Deuce Modifications sub-board. Anyways, while it's there I thought I'd get some other work done, if the price was reasonable (to me).
So, today, they installed an air dryer and alcohol evaporator...
