The beginning of this thread is a good read. I think the next time I work on my air intake I'll put a blast gate in the air line and an emergency cut off switch in the cab like was mentioned on post #10...
I suppose it depends on what you plan on using the vehicle for. There are several things the deuce was designed for that may not be present when you start with a not-deuce frame.
When I asked about this his response was: "There is a seal, bonded piston seal, that may be defective. We replaced that in advance. Think of it as a recall."
So, an update.
I eventually had to go out of the country (fortunately I live pretty close) to find someone willing to do the differential work. I called probably a dozen shops in WA and most just weren't set up to work with a truck the size of the deuce and I only found one that admitted to...
One issue with buying new shoes, unless you have a local source is the shipping. Midwestjeepwillys.com has our shoes, all ready to go and offer free shipping over $50. I was shocked that it applied to brake shoes as these things weigh quite a bit, but a couple years ago I bought several pair...
Hmm...the truck weighs just shy of 7 tons, empty. I don't know what kind of weight the motorhome adds to it, but there's only so much you can do with a heavy truck. I'm pretty impressed with the stopping of the deuce, all things considered. Best way to stop is to plan for it. I can lock up...
Hopefully, by next weekend I will have. My air lockers are taking extra time because the installer found a problem, contacted ARB and they are picking up the tab for warranty work. And it put the installer way behind - I think he spent an entire day on just one. Installer is just working on...
I think if it started its life as a deuce and you can still see it, it counts. Though I'm a little biased as time goes on and I mod mine more and more away from stock.
A separate system is more expensive, but it's also isolates the main system. In my case, I could see myself a couple hundred miles away from everyone, going to start my truck and it won't start because one of the dozen accessories was left on, or shorted, or something and drained the batteries...
Mine was caved in a little on the roof, as can be seen from the inside, maybe just gravity. As for the rest of the condition, the metal was starting to lift and flake a little. I gave it a way a few months ago.
At the moment my truck operates at 102 db inside the cab. I would love to be able to hear a lot less, and as it is I travel wearing hearing protection. I'm in the process of putting sound insulation (I have several projects going on at once with the truck). But once that's done, I seriously...
Drove the deuce for an hour today to drop off to (hopefully) get the air lockers installed. Felt really good on the drive. I had to go to another country to find a mechanic willing to undertake the task. I couldn't find someone in my state, and the guy I found in lower BC (Canada) comes...
Not too long ago I was turning around on a somewhat narrow, gravel driveway with a steep drop-off on both sides. No one else was around and I don't (yet) have a backup camera. After I got the truck turned around, I got out and noticed that my furthest rear axle had completely left the driveway...
WA is similar, but the wording includes: "special occasions". Well, for me, going to the dump is always a special moving experience.
I have driven my deuce over 3k highway miles in WA & OR and never gotten pulled over. I do have a cover on the back which I think helps as I'm usually carrying...
