I'm good with a rebuild, but I don't want to do that if I can help it. I don't think it's a rod or something big, and the clacking is about half as loud with the fresh oil (a thrown rod wouldn't be). Can I see all the rods if I pull the pan?
I got the M936 about a month ago and changed all fluids and filters upon arrival. We drove it around the neighborhood a few times with no problems. I even got to use the crane a couple of times! Then I took it on a 5 mile highway trip, going about 55 mph (not floored). About halfway back, I...
What's the answer to the replacement cooler? Go back factory or is there an upgrade? I think I have the same issue. No damage, I caught it just in time.
I'm ordering a case of grease and fluids to change out on my new (to me) M936. I've got lubrication order questions. The original LO says to use MIL-G-10924, which seems like generic lubrication grease. I didn't see any NAPA equivalent on the 5-ton parts spreadsheet. What are you guys using...
Took my M936 for a drive on the highway this morning and I'm pretty sure I blew up the motor. Many bad, bad noises. Oil seems clean and full. No smoke coming out the exhaust. But a really bad noise from the motor under load.
Yes, the long boom supports came with the truck, but they are on the wrong side of the truck. I haven't been able to get the crane working well enough to move them to the other side. They are at least a 4 man lift each (for old guys).
Yes. Sorry, I've been busy getting greasy for the past couple of day. Yes, it is up and running. Fixed the PCB, which answered the no-start issue. Have the driveshaft reconnected, and the truck runs and drives now. I'm working my way through the smaller issues like the crane throttle and...
I had to completely rebuild the Power Control Box (PCB) with new solenoids and diodes. Now that's done, I've got 4 new batteries from NAPA, and she starts like a dream!
Do some simple moment of force calculations. A three meter extension with 2,000 pounds on the end is the equivalent of ~20,000 pounds on the tip of your fully extended boom. You would far exceed the mechanical limitations of the truck, which is dangerous with helicopters and things. Just get...
Is anyone here in Houston that has a bunch of 5-ton Wrecker(M936) knowledge? I've read the TM"s (okay, scanned them), and still have some questions about controls that are not in the manual. I'd love someone knowledgeable to show me the finer points of this truck!

I don't have any winch controls like that at all. My rear winch controls are on the passenger side of the bed, operable from the ground. I haven't seen any throttle control on the bed or crane at all, but I'll look. I do agree the dash throttle is tough to "set once" and it does creep, so it...
So I've used the crane a bit, and it's fantastic! The first few times I used the crane I was working on the throttle linkage (disconnected), so I shifted it at an idle in neutral and manually turned up the throttle to about 1500 rpm's on the fuel pump. I've now reconnected the throttle linkage...
