I'm going with 147,000 miles. It's a guess, but check out the brake pedal. It looks like the rubber is worn through. I have a 1997 Chevy diesel crew cab that has 83,000 miles, and the pedal doesn't look anywhere near as worn as the one in the picture. The rust, in and of itself, does not say...

The alternator pully is a tough one to find. I got one from John Murray from TNJ Murray in Dover, DE. When I got one (several years ago), John told me that he only had one more. Perhaps, he got more or maybe he never sold that one. It is worth a try.

It could be military as I don't see any tags on it.

Would welding the seam be a solution? I can see how it might be a problem if you wanted to remove a body panel. But, I bet 99 times of 100 you won't be removing those body panels. Best of all, I think a nice weld will actually be cleaner looking than the factory caulking. Just a thought...

I can't help, but, yeah, that sounds about right for GL. They screw up and then blame you. I've been screwed by them a few times. Guys complain about GovPlanet; GL is far worse, at least based upon my dealings with each.

Is this really a problem that needs to be addressed regularly? I've had M939 series trucks since 2001 and put thousands of miles on them, and I don't recall EVER replacing the wiper hoses. Is this a common problem?

If it is just a big winch you are after, why not expand your search to guys with wreckers? The 45,000 pound drag winch on the back of the wreckers is made for this type of recovery. Of course, it helps to have two winches to "steer" the recovered vehicle, but there probably are more wrecker...
