    2 quick questions for my 84 m1028

I have been impressed with the quality and function of everything Off Road Design has ever sold me. There are lots and lots of options out there. Just look for a 1985 K30. Delco 9G or 11G glow plugs will fit any 6.2 or 6.5 diesel. They will swap into your CUCV with no issues. The CUCV has...

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

I have the O’Reilly’s 1987 Suburban condenser. It is cross flow and fit. However, I have a CUCV front valence so I have to assume it is the same as the civilian truck for condenser mounts. I hate to assume though. 85° is the cut off for between super cold front and rear to around 50 in the...

Fuel filter , OEM or swap m1028

Sorry I wrote that the stock CUCV base cracked. It is the sensor as already pointed out. I was thinking about the Duramax one when writing about the CUCV one.

M1007 - CUCV Suburban Clone Build Thread

Busy times since I updated the Cowdog saga last. A week or so after the last post the a/c stopped cooling. Well, the front wasn't cooling but the rear a/c still was. Ice was forming at the orifice right at the entrance to the evaporator so I became convinced the orifice was either blown or...

Fuel filter , OEM or swap m1028

The stock "bread box" filter works. It has a heater element for cold climates and a water if fuel sensor. It it what is supposed to be on the truck. However, that long flat base has problems with leaking air which is why a lot of people including myself have switched over to a spin on fuel...

    M35 OA331 engine

The 1965 TM9-2320-209020 on page 309, sub section c, figure 241 tells and shows how to adjust the belt on the water cooled air compressor found on the stock REO Gasser engine. Basically, as already posted. Loosen the set screw and twist that part of the pulley the set screw is in counter...

    M35 OA331 engine

Loosen the set screw and then spin that part of the pulley to widen the gap for the belt which makes the belt loose. The 1964 TM's on this site and the ones on Jatonka.com have Gasser information.

First fuel leak located - sort of…

He is correct. I exaggerated a bit about the cranking. Since these engines normally start instantly any cranking more than 2-3 seconds seems like a very long time. 2-4 sets of crank for 30 seconds, let it sit for at least 2 minutes, repeat should have you running just fine.

First fuel leak located - sort of…

That sums it up pretty good. Then you get to crank and crank and crank and crank on the engine to get the IP primed and the lines bled of air. Make sure your batteries are up to the challenge and have a way to be charged. Pulling the glow plugs is a good way to let it spin faster with less...

What should the oil pressure be on the 6.5L?

60 psi is what I think the TM says is the max. 40-50 hot cruising is what the TM says is right.

    Wiper issues

These motors weren’t all that great new. Are you running stock wipers or the biggest ones that clear the molding? The combination of weak motor and bigger than stock blades has taught me to not turn them on unless the windshield is wet. I have had them stick just about all positions on the...

Are you getting any smoke while cranking?

What the Heck is Going On with this Speedometer???

Just reach up behind the dash. Follow the cable to the back of the speedometer. You can feel a plastic latch/catch on the side of it that holds it to the speedometer. Once you feel it, you will understand how it comes apart.

What the Heck is Going On with this Speedometer???

I have the adaptor installed so it was the male end of the adaptor box into the plastic gear. I second the recommendation to pull the casing from the back of the speedometer while working at the transfer case. If nothing else you will be able to see once you stuff the male end of the cable...

    Replacing lift pump

5/8 and 11/16 flare nut wrenches for the solid fuel line. 15mm socket for the solid fuel line holder halfway up the front of the engine 1/4" drive sockets have done me well for the actual mount bolts. Swivel sockets work well too. A stool or something to stand on for trying to do the stuff...

What the Heck is Going On with this Speedometer???

I wrapped the male end going into the plastic gear of one of mine with aluminum foil and it has been spot on working every time for the last 10 years now. Just throwing something else into the pot.

81 M35 brake lights stay on

The brake light switch just connects the two leads to make the lights come on. If you are not hearing the air pack breathe in relation to the lights coming on then I would guess you either have a short between the 3 lever switch and the brake light switch or a bad brake light switch.

    Towing an M1009 Blazer

To answer the question. Yes, you can put the transfer case in neutral to flat tow. The TM says no more than 50 mph for 50 miles. Most everyone answered with the practical real world answer of trailer or pull the drive shaft because we all know someone who did it by the book. That had the not...

    Help with correcting speedo (gear)

Just remember the box is meant to get the speedometer within 3-4 mph plus or minus with 31” tires.

    Help with correcting speedo (gear)

Everyone that has done an axle swap on a M1009 has a reduction box sitting around. I am sure one will show up for sale.
