Thanks guys. As promised, here is an update from today. It was the windiest, bitterest day on the project by far today. Phew! Good thing I had my kero heater going in one of the conex boxes. I had to take a break every once in a while to thaw out!
My number one priority today was...
New Year's Eve was especially greasy and difficult at John Winslow's. I am in a big time crunch to get the truck done so I worked on Thursday for most of the day, this morning for a few hours, and then I'll be back there again tomorrow.
My first project on Thursday was scavenging some more...
Joe, there is a paper available on the ABS Mod Track website about the VIN. You are correct in that the 28 is for the M928A2 and it is followed by a slash and the production number. That is the way BMY numbered their trucks.
If you pull all of the CTIS stuff off of your truck, please box...
I forgot to mention that a couple of SS guys stopped by while I was working. Brandon AMGeneral and Neil neilhendrix pulled up in Brandon's dually. Brandon was nice enough to deliver my tool crates that came all the way from TX via Frodo and timntrucks. They spent a couple of hours looking...
Thanks for thinking about the hoist, but I actually lucked into one just recently. Sorry to hear about your grandfather. As far as the weather goes, I think I actually prefer work projects in the freezing cold compared to the sweaty, stinking hot, humid, mosquito/gnat/tick/bee infested summer :)
I had a good work day today. It was bitter cold with the wind howling, but it was sunny and dry.
I started out by dumping some BioKleen in the fuel tank and adding 20 more fresh gallons of fuel.
Then, I decided to install the exhaust stack. Too bad I installed the muffler upside down a...
I'm glad you are making some progress, Jason. I enjoy reading your regular updates and seeing your pictures.
I have seen new and used CTIS wheel shields on eBay.
Bjorn, that filter is a clear plastic unit I got from Napa so I could see how quickly it was clogging. The stock A2 trucks came with a small spin-on filter/water separator mounted on the block after the lift pump. The GI's soon discovered that filter by itself was inadequate so a small metal...
Thanks for the encouragement and the suggestions everyone. I appreciate it. Pulling and cleaning the tank may be the ultimate solution. So far, I am only out a couple of inexpensive in-line filters. The inside of the tank that I can see looks spotless, so I figure it must be hiding in the...
Well, I had a chance to work on the truck today. It was around 25 at first light with a heavy frost, but thankfully I didn't have 2 feet of snow on the truck like some of our northern members!
The first thing I did was drain the bottom inch of fuel out of the tank. It came out nice and...
Jason,
Congrats on getting the other wrecker home! The only thing better than one M936A2 is two M936A2's!
I think Ed was referring the the field modification where the M809 or M939 fuel filter/separator is fitted to the A2 trucks. I started gathering pieces for my install today. I am tired...
Yep, the 939-series has the u-joint type. The 939-series and 809-series axles are basically the same except for the air brake set up so the axle shafts should interchange.
Welcome to the site. 35"s will fit with stock springs if you don't mind trimming the front fender lips. Otherwise, I think 1008's look great with a 4" lift and 35"s. The 700R4 and taller tires will definitely help your RPM's on the highway and the turbo kit will give it some extra grunt for...
