Fabbed up my mounts today and tacked them in place. Neighbor was too drunk to weld them so he'll be doing it tomorrow morning. Personally I wait until the work is through before guzzling brew. I can't do crap if I am stumbling around the yard.
I know somewhere Stan is laughing his hind...
If you'd like to keep up with the project, I have an active thread going in the appropriate section. I just fabbed up the motor mounts today and my neighbor is welding them up for me in the morning with his big Miller.
I also picked up my material today for my motor mounts. Little did I know the motor plates I made for the block were 1/4 plate. I thought they were 3/16". So I made sure to pickup more 1/4" stock. Total for all the needed metal was $8. It's great too, very professional business. Just walk in to...
Thanks for the link Tanner, great reading! I won't have any issues here, since the centerline of the Tcase and transmission remains unchanged. The only difference now is the slip yoke on the back of the transmission sits 3 inches above the Tcase input. Angle wise, they are both parallel with the...
Something I never thought of before, as many of you already know I just installed a 6.2 in my M211. Just how loud is the cab going to be? I know a lot of 6.2's sound like a washing machine full of ball peen hammers. And I will be routing a single 3" straight pipe up the right side of the cab...
Well I couldn't wait until tomorrow. You are quickly turning into a superfriend OldFart, with all the info and tips you have given me. I can do this work, but I would have never thought to raise the powerplant up higher. I hoisted the engine up again, removed the crossmember bushings, bolted the...
I appreciate the PM on engine alignment, OF! You actually got me thinking about raising the motor/tranny. It sits pretty low. The reason for that is the tranny crossmember is what is currently dictating where it all sits, height wise. If I remove the crossmember/frame bushings, put those...
All balanced out, front to back and side to side. It's right where I want it and the last step is to fab up the brackets to connect the biscuits to the motor plates. The motor plates sit lower than I thought, so the brackets will sort of "step down" from the biscuits and then will be welded to...
I woke up with a nasty headache and feeling like I caught the flu this morning. Took a few tylenol and 2 hours later I was outside preparing the hoist my new engine in. Borrowed some plywood from the neighbor for my "temporary road" since a hoist doesn't travel well on soft clay.
Got them both...
Radiators can still be obtained without too much trouble, as for the "stripped out wiring". When it comes to the GMC wiring it doesn't get any simpler. I wish I lived close by and i'd be happy to show you. Just 1 wire going to the distributor, 1 to each sending unit on the motor. If you mean the...
You can ditch the stock GMC transfer case and go with an NP205. The easiest option is to ditch the front prop shaft and forget about front drive capabilities all together, since the output on the GMC Tcase spins the front driveshaft in reverse. OR, if you still wanted front wheel capabilities...
I just thought about that too, I'd keep it if you can. As much as I preach about motor swaps, I could only justify modifying a truck if the original motor/tranny was FUBAR or it was gutted. These very rarely break. They will run like garbage if not setup properly, but I don't think i've seen...
Im just happy to see all the people who have been migrating south the early deuce section this past year. I don't want to sound egotistical but I'd like to think I have in some way done my best to bring a little enthusiasm to this section. Lots of good information being posted, I hope these...
The list is endless. But remember the engine compartment was not designed with length in mind. So rule out most all straight diesels unless you want to make a small doghouse in the cab. There are a multitude of good gas V6's and gas/diesel V8's that will all fit very easily. It ALL depends on...
Even with the most modern engine/tranny in your truck, the rest of the driveline was never designed to exceed 60mph (58mph actually). If you want to see highway speeds your only option is to upgrade to 395 Michelin 46" tires. I know some people brag about going 70mph+ by adding OD transmissions...
