    Couple of questions

Great thread. I just finished redoing my front axle boots, seals, wheel bearings I had zero difficulty after reading this thread. Cudos to the author! I also used the funnel/rubber hose method pouring from a 5 gallon bucket to a 5 quart (already added 1 qt of Lucas) jug , then into the...

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

Woodsplinter & Zout, Thanks for the heads up on the air flow. I have already ordered a 24v reversible cooling fan to mount on top of the condenser. I will use the gauges to determine if pushing air down through or pulling it up through would work the best. I will keep you posted. It has been...

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

I spent about 2 days working on bracketing to mount the condenser in front of the grill. I could have bought a smaller unit, but since this one came with the unit, I thought I might as well save the bucks and mount it. It was a presentable fabrication, but needed to be mounted horizontally...

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

Here are a few pictures of the evaporator temporarily mounted in the cab. That is a 6"2" , 230 pouder in the seat. We did not sacrifice too much leg room and again, the trade off is worth it to be cool in the hot, sunny south! I scrapped the front radiator condenser mount and relocated it...

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

Overtheedge, These kits are designed to fit on the new vehicles with Cat engines. I would guess the compressor would be a bolt on using the existing compressor bracket. If you have National Guard Armory or Reserve unit close by, check with the motor pool and see how the a/c fits in the new...

    M3 Halftrack Restoration

Absolutely fantastic job! I thoroughly have enjoyed every one of your posts, and look forward to seeing more! What is going on with the person who bought all of your 10 ton trucks? Are they continuing on in your fashion?

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

I am 6', 220 lbs and have sufficient leg room. Since I mounted the evaporator up off the floor, there is a place for feet. The general consensus here at our compound is: in Florida, summertime temps 95+, humidity100%; Cab temp 100+ standing still. With a/c, same outside temp and humidity; inside...

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

I have installed the A/C system in my deuce and left the heater the gov't installed. The new evaporator has a heater integrated with the a/c, and I also am hooking it up. Here are a few pictures of the install, although still temporary, you will get the idea. You need to clear the right side of...

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

m-35tom, I kept the heater that came with the deuce. I thought I might need the defroster so did not want to remove it. I most likely will hook up the heater in the evaporator. The ac evaporator just clears the existing heater box on the firewall. Thanks for the tip on the Gates Green...

Woodsplinter, Did the condenser come from Boyce? Do you have any info on it?

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

I like it! Great engineering ingenuity! I see you used the yoke on the radiator bracket. I had to make a new bracket, there was not enough adjustment in my yoke to make up for the 3/8" thickness of the compressor plate.

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

After installing the a/c compressor, I began putting the front end of the truck back together. I quickly found the truck has decided although I was ready, it wasn’t. Herein is when the real challenges reared their collective ugly heads! The fan would not clear the compressor clutch. I needed to...

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

Southbreeze, Thanks for the recommendation on the galvanized fitting. I will pick up a brass one tomorrow. I was concerned I might over-tighten the brass one and break it off, as it has to face in the direction in the post, but will see if I can make the brass work.

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

Notice the fan hub in this attached picture. When the compressor is installed, the fan would not clear the compressor clutch. I purposely painted the fan blade tips yellow to be sure they cleared after I spaced the fan out 1/2 ". This initially presented a number of challenges. I will address...

    Air Conditioning a Deuce

In picture #8 above, I reversed the alternator tensioning bracket and attached it back on the top of the Alternator and the slotted end to the top outside bolt hole on the a/c compressor. I went to Autozone and bougt two belts, part # 15550. I also have included a few more pictures of the...
