As for the fuel tanks under the doors.
It is do-able, but a step will stick pretty far out.
And that puts the fuel tank in the most dangerous spot of getting hit when you go over objects.
Easier to pull the spare tire setup and put the extra tank there.
Actually, the arctic kits relocated the batteries to under the seat. They then put a fuel fired heater where the original batteries where.
Honestly, it would be very easy to make a sealed box for the batteries and have it vent to the outside. It is done in race cars all the time, and a simple...
Oh yeah, I took it slow. That was why I was complaining about how LONG it took to grind just the 20 of them!
I never discolored the metal.
Plus I let them cool a lot, with air and water.
I need another wheel for my bench grinder before I do any more though. It wasn't new when I started, but it...
The sprag and air activated are referring to the transfer case rather then the front axle itself.
Both will have the same type of front axle. Just a different transfer case that gets the power to the front axle.
You have the lockers setup correct though.
Oh yeah, took a few photos.
You can see the material that needed to be removed!
And now how the nut sits up nice and FLUSH to the hub.
Glad I thought about all this and went and worked on it. I sure hope this really straightens up how the rear tires behave at speeds.
Add one more point, it seems that there are different bud nuts, where there is a different amount of off set for the duals. This makes the whole nut stick out further!
And to top that off, I had a mix and match set on mine!
I pulled the fronts off today and ground them down (the back beveled...
Easy, top speed of the non-OD tranny will be the same as yours topped out in 4th gear (direct drive.) 4th Gear in the OD = 1.1, same as 5th gear in non-OD tranny.
Which, puts my 818 with the 16's on it back down to 50-53 mph if I was to go that route. Which is too slow for my usage.
It definitely moves the weight around. Especially to balance the amount of weight on the front axle. And even more important on these shorter wheelbase trucks (as compared to the typically longer OTR truck.)
If you move the 5th wheel too far back, your front axle gets too light, and you no...
Oh, and while Soni has an awesome setup, I wouldn't want to loose that much space for a sleeper, and that much less ability for moving the weight around on a HEAVY load.
Yeah, I figured having the air ride suspension, etc, of a regular OTR truck will trump the ride of an OD truck any day. I know the KWs I have been in the last few weeks make me cringe at climbing back in my 818 for anything more then just going around the block.
IF the job lines out, it would be...
Mike, I was wondering when that photo would show up!
Darn funny!
Thing is, I don't want to stretch the frame, just throw the sleeper behind the cab and run it. At most, I would pull the winch , and put the sleeper there.
But if the 915a1 could have a coffin cab, that would be cheap and pretty...
I am getting ready to buy an OTR truck.
Thing is, I would much rather get a 915 series truck and put a sleeper behind it.
Much cheaper, obviously.
Darn cool!
But HEAVY with the winch for the 916 and 920. Plus the drop in MPG with the front live axle.
I know I could pull the winch and at least...
Nice to see them work!
I wish you had some serious hills so I could hear how well that truck does with a 5 to 9 mile 6% (or more) grade. I REALLY want to get a 920 to use for some heavy haul, but unless I run JUST heavy haul, I can't justify the weight of the 920 compared to a regular OTR truck...
