    CUCV M1008 wont start

I have done this a couple of times when my batteries were bad and all the juice i had was enough for a turn over or 3. When i did mine i sprayed the air filter as quick as i could hit the sprayer and let off. Do not flood these things with starting fluid. Best to not use it at all if you can...

Need advice with parasitic battery drain

I have never been good at tracking drain. The last time I had it I installed a battery cut off switch on the draining battery. I realize thats no help to your problem but it works if you can't figure it out.

    Electrical

I knew it sounded like the ground wasn't isolated. Well fingers crossed hopefully you didn't smoke it. Maybe you'll get it all back together this time and it will all work.

    Electrical

I hate to imagine how your feeling right now. It only took me 3 days to track down my Gen2 gremlin after replacing my pcb and I was ready to throw in the towel when I finally found it. I checked everything 4 times before I figured it out. I am sure you are well past that. Good luck PeeWee

    Electrical

There is a possibility that gen 1 had been rebuilt in the past and the rebuilder knowing it didn't have to be isolated ground didn't isolate it. A friend had that problem on his 1008 and smoked the circuit when he switched them.

    The new guy here

Yes it is a 4 post solenoid that is alot more dependable than the stock relay. There are several posts here about it and a couple of videos in utube just search for doghead starter mod the only work is a little wire cutting and ring terminal crimping

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Have been driving Gunny alot trying to see what all he really needs as far reliability and durability is concerned. Here is the list so far. Shocks all the way around, front leaf springs, steering stabilizer, diff servicing rear and front, transfer case service, trans service, new glow plugs...

    The new guy here

On the lubrication aspect I keep a gallon of Lucas fuel system treatment in Gunny. I put in a little every time I fill up. Diesel just doesn't have the lubricants in it that it used to so you need some type of additive for proper lubrication.

    M1008 craigslist find

I am not big on any vehicles after 1990 they just have no personality to them. Wrenching on these old vehicles really is part of the fun. Working on a vehicle is part of what develops its personality.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Gotcha I love the 3.08 gears I really dont do any heavy work with Gunny though so they are fine for me. If I had 4.56 I think I would have to do the 700r swap so I could keep my highway speed at lower rpm's.

    The new guy here

Welcome from East Alabama and West Georgia. I am kinda new to CUCV's as well but this site is a wealth of knowledge. Just prepare yourself that there are going to be issues ti be sorted out before they run reliably and properly but once you get it done these trucks become conversation pieces at...

    PeeWee's M1009 Build Thread

Yeah mine is always saying I should do more for myself so when I decide to she doesn't argue. Plus she wants it Gunny going right to. She likes riding in him to go to the local creeks and rivers.

    PeeWee's M1009 Build Thread

Looking good PeeWee you are further along than me. I have had mine for 2yrs and really just this year started trying to fix it up. Told the wife I wasn't putting it off any longer. The reason I love her is because she was completely fine with that and told me I deserve to get my truck in good shape.
