Recently my M1009 was doing the same thing. At idle I could hear a noise and detect a slight vibration. Went away when I increased engine RPM.
Crawled under the front of the engine and found a missing nut on the power steering pump bracket.
Installed new nut and tightened all the mounting...
Just to clarify ;
The RED LED (on my GP card) indicates that the card is providing the ground output to close the relay. It does not indicate that the relay has actually closed.
It is there to indicate that the card is functioning.
And I agree with the others advice; clean all of the electrical...
I purchased 3 of these relays from Murcal along with a DC voltmeter.
Installed the voltmeter next to the factory 24v meter. The voltmeter monitors the output of the GP relay via the Orange wire to the GP card. After the GP relay opens the voltmeter automatically switches to monitoring the 12v...
I have purchased weatherstripping from these people. Very pleased with the products. I have not compared their prices with LMC.

Sounds like the IP may be on it's way out.
My M1009 did the same thing, replaced IP and started great after that.
I bought 2 IP's from Oregon Fuel Injection.http://oregonfuelinjection.com/index.php?pid=14#INJECTON_PUMP,_6.2L_&_6.5L
Used the DB2-4544 model.

I have the same problem with my 1008. Starts great when cold or hot. When it's warm it was very hard to start.
One time when it was warm and didn't want to start, I took a jumper wire and manually closed the glow plug relay for about 10 seconds, started right up.
So I suspect that the...
I believe that cpf240 is correct.
I recently installed new glow plugs and changed plugs from 24 to 12 volt feed.
Experienced the same no start issue with a longer than normal WAIT light symptom.
Measured the voltage on the top of the GP relay -- 12.8 volts during the wait cycle.
Measured the...
Are you sure that you are getting fuel to the IP?
You have stated that you are getting fuel to to the filter, but is it getting to the IP?
I would disconnect the glow plugs until you find out why the fuel is not getting to the injectors.
This will save some wear on the glow plugs and reduce...
Recently bought another M1009 from an individual. Having no service records or other info on the truck, I decided to change glow plugs, fuel filter, oil and and clean up a few dirty electrical contacts that these vehicles are prone to have.
I changed 7 of the glow plugs (one is swollen)...
Dang!
Forgot to refill the smoke.
Looks like the contactors did not rotate and I agree with cpf20, carbon build up on the contact surfaces. The copper had no noticeable pitting of the mating surfaces.
The truck has been modified with the resistor bypass. The GP's are fed with 12 volts.
Mfg...
I used a vise to pinch the top off. It popped right off and was only slightly distorted.
Reinstalling the top was done with the universal BFH.
I should seal it a little better, with some waterproofing materials, but for now it will be a spare unit.
My M1009 became increasingly hard to start when the glow plugs were needed to be on. Finally one morning it wouldn't start at all. Batteries are good, glow plugs are good and my GP card is good, relay made normal noise when closing.
After getting a volt meter from my work truck, found that I...
I owned one that did and one that did not have the wiring.
Like CPF240, one had an attempt at it with a local wiring job.
So I assume that not all of them had the wiring installed.
Here is a few pictures of the factory installed rear bus wiring.
I would estimate that it is about 12 feet of #2 stranded wire.
The voltage at the battery and rear bus bar was the same with no load. With about a 10 amp load it dropped approximately .25 volts.
