I am definitely going to try to make it. HALFTRACK is probably going to be staying at my house that weekend so hopefully we'll be able to make it so I can introduce him to the MD crowd! Great time out the last time.
Do you have any pics? The newer trailers all have crank up landing gear. The older trailers have the large wheel type landing leg. The crank up landing legs are great...but, if you are hauling the trailer home with a pick up or SUV, the lunette will probably not drop far enough to hook up to...
WIKALLEN, were you referring to the truck at Ft. Meade? If so, it was the same truck that sold twice for whatever reason. To the best of my recollection, two sold over the past year. One at Ft. Meade (twice) and one in, I believe, Georgia (might have been South Carolina).
Have you called around to some of the bigger dealers about a take-out transmission? I would start with White Owl in NC. They have a lot of parts and they are priced reasonably...usually. Good luck.
I think you will be happy with the Gillespie match. It is a bit more brown as opposed to the red-brown of the correct CARC, but it is darn close. I have touched up fresh CARC with Gillespie paints and I have been satisfied. The only Gilliespie color that I don't think is the flat black. I...
I would go with the 5 ton rims, especially if the prices are close. I have never used the HEMTT rims on anything but a HEMTT, but I have read that guys say that the studs on a 5 ton are a bit too short for the HEMTT rims.
As soon as I get a truck, I change the glow plugs and replace them with non-swelling glow plugs. it is part of my initial maintenance. If you end up with a swollen glow plug, and you have any trouble getting it out, you will wish you had changed them. They make a tool to remove swollen glow...
HALFTRACK has a really nice M936A2 with a rebuilt motor that he wants $20K for. That is CHEAP! I keep telling him he is crazy to ask that little. He needs the money for something so he says he will take a loss on it. It is a really nice truck.
I believe that third color (brown) is field drab. Even though these trucks were not USMC trucks, a lot of USMC trucks utilize field drab as the brown in the 3 color scheme. I am not sure why, but I have seen this many times previously. With regard to the OP's M35A3, I had an M35A3 with the...
Jason, I noticed that AFTER...and hence I deleted my post. My post was irrelevant once I realized the trailer was not what I thought it was. Thanks for the clarification!
Who could be sure that anything is still stock even if there were differences between the years?!?! These trucks have been in military inventory for 25 or so years and have been worked on numerous times. I would not worry about the year and try to find the cleanest example I could locate...
