Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

Appreciate all the responses! I have made a list of all the points made and also looked through various other threads related to must do maintenance items and checks, and merged them all together. Turns out the truck sold yesterday. But at least now I have a good guide for what to check and...

Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

@GeneralDisorder I hear you loud and clear. I have no intention of driving back on questionable fronts. I have popped a bead on a front tire on a 3500 duramax dually with 235/85R16s doing stupid stuff in an open field, and keeping it straight was no joke. I can image a 395/85 being an order...

Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

Appreciate the feedback. I have asked the seller if he can check the date codes on the tires and if he happens to have known good tires of a more recent vintage he can swap on. He apparently has quite the collection. But yeah, failing that, picking up 2 fresh (ish) front tires sounds like a...

Looking to purchase a 1996 1083 and drive it 120 miles home. What could possibly go wrong?

I found a 1996 1083 (A0) on Marketplace. Description from the listing as follows: 1996 Stewart & Stevenson M1083 LMTV Cargo Truck Runs & drives excellent. One of the nicest vehicles in our fleet. Low miles. Cargo Cover. Needs Batteries, as they all do. Can jump start so you can see it run...

MEP 803A won’t start - high temp warning light

@Light in the Dark Thanks for the link. Yeah, I definitely don't need 5 of them though. Sent you a pm. Kubota engine is a V2003T (2.0 liter turbo) with a rated output of 30.6kW @ 1,800 rpm. The gen head is a Mecc Alte 20kW. I added a DSE 7410 MKII controller which has an ethernet port so...

MEP 803A won’t start - high temp warning light

Thanks @Guyfang exactly what I was looking for. 803A still humming along powering the house with the coolant temp holding steading right around 180F per the gauge. I thought I had an extra coolant high temperature switch on my parts 802A, but I guess I already used it on another set. Anyone...

MEP 803A won’t start - high temp warning light

^^ For some reason disconnecting the coolant switch wires and leaving them open circuit made the high temp warning LED go away. I too would have thought the temp sensor would be short circuit when temp was ok and open up when too high. Guess its the other way around. @Farmitall Definitely a...

MEP 803A won’t start - high temp warning light

Disconnected high temp sensor got it going. Guess that failed for some reason?

MEP 803A won’t start - high temp warning light

If I flip the battle short switch on, I do hear the main fuel pump in prime & run, but it still won’t crank.

MEP 803A won’t start - high temp warning light

Have a 803a that normally runs just fine. Tried to fire it up this morning due to power outage but it won’t crank. I get the high temp warning fault LED in the run position. Batteries fully charged. Cranks fine via dead crank switch. In run/aux position I hear the aux fuel pump, but in...

    M1078 GVWR Over the Road

Just slap some FARM USE tags on in and call it a day. That's what I did after finding out how much the DMV wanted annually to register my dump truck @ 26,000 lbs. I'm not using it commercially so that might not work if you are. I haven't been pulled over, but I have hauled gravel with those...

MEP 805B wired to split 400amp panels

I don't have 3 phase 400A, but I do have 2 phase 400A with both a 400A disconnect as well as a 400A transfer switch. Here's how I wired mine: 500 MCM Al coming up into the meter base on far left. From there's its all 300 MCM Cu, except ground which is 1/0 Al. Here it is with all the covers...

    MEP-802A. Won’t stay running.

Turns out it was the adjustment of the MPU. I put the original back in, backed it out 1.5 turns and got about 0.9 VAC dead cranking. Turned it back in 1/8 turn and I was at 1.6 VAC, did another 1/8 turn and was at 2.3 VAC, tightened up the nut and it runs great now.

Yep, I know exactly what "relay" that is. Thanks!

    MEP-802A. Won’t stay running.

Been a while. So I have now sold all my spare 802s except for this one that won't stay running unless the MPU is disconnected. I measured the resistance of both the spare MPU and the one in the unit. Both are right around 141 Ohms. So I really don't think that's the issue. Here they are...

    MEP-802A. Won’t stay running.

Finally had a chance to work on the unit some yesterday. I removed the MPU and cleaned off the little bit of rust stuck on the tip. Re-installed and adjusted and I still get the same thing. I remove the MPU from my spare set and noticed the connectors on the ends were gone. Anyone know if a...

    MEP-802A. Won’t stay running.

The MPU is not loose and the 2 connectors going to it are tight. I'll pull it when I get a chance to inspect it and make sure it is adjusted correctly. I do have a MPU from my spare set that I'll probably just swap in when I have it out anyway. All the screws on the wiring terminals and by...

    MEP-802A. Won’t stay running.

I swapped out S14 from my parts 802 and same behavior. I then put S14 from the unit acting up into a good 802 and it started fine. I'll check the wiring going to the S14 socket next. The 802 acting up was running fine a few weeks ago when I last moved it around.

    MEP-802A. Won’t stay running.

I tried 3 different relays in the K16 socket and they all acted exactly the same. Here's one of them "dancing":

    MEP-802A. Won’t stay running.

I have a 802 with the exact same symptoms. It ran fine a few weeks ago, but when I tried to start it yesterday, as soon as it fired, the solenoid would cut off. If I manually hold the solenoid in the run position, it runs fine. There are no faults LED lit up. I put a pair of Noco chargers on...
