When I got my 998 20 years ago it had been sitting behind a fire station in Northern California for 5 years. After doing the repairs on it and putting in new batteries I figured what the heck, I might as well try to start it and if it didn't I'd go thru the fuel system and fix whatever was...
You didn't mention having it but it sounds like a supplemental grounding kit is in order. When you start getting weird, unrelated things happening in the electrical system it's a good indicator that it's time has come.
Having the IP rebuilt is not mandatory when replacing head gaskets, it's just the ideal time to do it. If it's running OK and just weeping fluid just do the head gaskets. Let your wallet and common sense prevail!
Your truck's 33 years old, head gaskets don't last forever and if the military...
Gentlemen, why go through the hassle of doing the 24 to 12 volt conversion when there are 24v radios and amplifiers on the market.? One of the problems I see with novice electricians is their misunderstanding of how electrical systems work. Running 12 volt wiring around a 24 volt truck can...
The AB-558 is used with mast sections MS-116, 117, and 118 and this base was typically mounted onto armored vehicles but it can also be mounted onto the standard "sugar scoop" bracket that's a part of the installation kits for most soft skin vehicles like jeeps and HMMWVs. It's the same...
Mornnin' Greg.
Does he have one of the notoriously defective Chinese key switches in the truck? If so, the first thing to do is either go back to the lever switch or replace the Chicom crap with a good switch.
Those of you who want to install a keyswitch in your trucks should avoid any of the...
Confusing header here. The GRR-8 was the receiver section of the PRD-11 direction finding system. There's no vehicle mount for it and came out well after the M38 was retired.
He's not looking for VIN information, he's asking about the year of manufacture which the A pillar number will give you.
Hey Steve, doesn't tracking the date of production tell you what year your truck is? Yes AMG won't give you diddley on the number but any LEO can.
There were 2, 60 amp alternators used in the HMMWV.
The early one is model AMA5102UT. This one uses regulator AMA1004A, 4 pin type connectors on the regulator and no resistor.
The later (current) model is AMA5104UT. This one uses regulator AM2004AS, 3 blade style connectors on the regulator...
Southern Automotive is the supplier for this part here: https://southernautomotive.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/22/products_id/29?osCsid=d725e82de85805592c6f8db86ee21435
If you want to get the actual build date of your vehicle take the number stamped on the A pillar in front of the drivers windshield and give it to a friend in law enforcement. They should be able to run that number and reference the AMG files for the build date.
Good point. These radios are going on 50+ years old and the O-rings on the covers have flattened out. That allows air to "breath" in and out as the radios sit on the sun and then cool back down in the evening. If that air is moist it get's into the radios and the moisture stays there. I've...
It sounds like the regulator has gone south on you.
To measure current output you do not go between the output post and ground. That's how you measure voltage. To properly measure current you need to disconnect the cable from the output terminal and put your current meter in series between...
