Jeebus, when you have a blow out, you don't fool around.
Is this truck extremely rare? I Googled it and couldn't even find any real images of that model, just civilian trucks and earlier military TMT's. It looks very interesting!
In the early days (2000), my unit had this MOC in a box. Originally, it was designed to be towed using artillery mobilizer wheels on each end. Unfortunately, it was too heavy and the mobilizer hydraulics often failed and in a very unsafe manner, so we put the MOC on a low boy and just kept it...
Yesterday, I drained off 3 gallons of coolant from the bottom of the radiator.
I was curious to see how much sludge and sediment was in the radiator. I also just wanted to recharge the system with some fresh SCA. This also gave me the opportunity to replace the leaking surge tank hose. There's...
If you're in PA, then you're (relatively) near Kublo's Military Surplus. The guy has rows and rows of deuces and 5 tons for sale. He claims to go over them thoroughly before selling them and Kublo's seems to get positive comments here if you search the archives. I do not know what he typically...
Mine as well. I'm going to hit it with a tiny wire wheel on my Dremel tool. The brush is soft enough that it shouldn't eat the embossed characters on the tag.
This guy put a dual circuit M/C from a Freightliner on his deuce:

I'm sure some of you guys have probably seen this?
I'm a little unclear on the article. Were all sorts of MV owners receiving letters revoking their title and tags or just HMMWV owners? Or any owner with a vehicle having an AM General data plate?
It sounds like the governor vetoed a bill causing ALL former MVs to be pulled off the road, not just...
Love the photos, thanks. I'm a visual learner so those are REALLY helpful. FWIW, I looked at the Lube Order for the M809's and it says:
"universal Joint and
Steering Knuckle Bearing
(See note 7) (LV-L,M) (0)"
That's a great point, Padre. My neighborhood has an online bulletin board of sorts. I can offer room on the truck when I'm making dump runs and offer to transport neighbor's fuel pellet purchases to their homes when I buy my own pellets. This may help generate good will among those neighbors who...
This weekend, I managed to get under the truck with a grease gun and attack nearly everything with a zerc fitting. This stuff is the low hanging fruit, easy to get caught up on.
Per the LO, I missed the trunnion bearings and the drive shaft for the rear axles, clutch and brake pedal shaft...
You need some OJ and to take a rest! I wondered how I'd get a shredded tire off of a wheel and the only strategy I could think of, was to use a cut off wheel to cut the tire near at the bead in several locations so I could pull it off the wheel. How did you do it?
Does Iceman's photos show whether he has the CV ball type or U-joint type? I have a '71 and my steering axle looks like his. Is it possible that some 809's got one type of axle and other trucks got the other type?
