    Need transmission help

the mainshaft will come out of the trans in the truck. you have to remove the rear flange, bearing holder and bearing. then it will come out leaving the 1st/rev gear in the trans. i think you should start over and say what your original issue was. what does the trans do? if the keys are sheared...

M35A2 fuel to injectors diagnostic issue

if the small, bottom (2") o ring is missing from the HH you should see fuel comming out where the shutoff cover goes. (remove the cover, it does not have to be there for it to run)

    IP Rebuild

hdexpert, i already outlined how to check an HH head. i just did one yesterday for one of our members near me. the one he took off was completely worn out and it was obvious and failed the test. the used head he had was usable maybe and just barely passed. tom

    Need transmission help

oh. you said you had a frozen gear. that is not a gear, it is a hub and 2nd / 3rd would not work if the keys were sheared. when you take it apart i would be interested in knowing if it had both keys installed. i cannot imagine how these keys could shear without something else in the trans...

    Need transmission help

if it is 2nd gear, just get a take out as the cost to repair will be more than a whole trans.

    FDC bypass question

chuck, thanks for mentioning the booster pump. i think it is greatly over looked. i recently had a booster pump seal that was putting 3 gallons of fuel in the oil in 5 minutes. it can be tested the same way, just let it hang by the lines and turn on the tank pump. be sure to get a NEW seal, not...

    FDC bypass question

i am surprised no one mentioned the field expediant method of setting the ip. you need a boost gauge on the intake manifold, set fuel rate for max 9 psi at 2300 rpm. if you do not have a hill, use low gear and the brakes to keep truck at 2300 (full throttle) and have soldier #2 read the gauge. tom

    OK, I'm done!!!

if fuel comes out all lines at injectors and it does not inject = low pressure = bad HH another thing that will happen with a bad HH is that if you tow the truck so the engine will turn at over 1500 - 2000 rpm it will probably run but not idle. tom

*Big changes coming to CARC paint*

what is the big deal with CARC? i just go to nyquist and have them mix to match whatever color i want in 2 part urethane. with enough flattener it looks the same to me. after it is on you can use 2+2 gumcutter and brakekleen on it with impunity. tom

    OK, I'm done!!!

rebuilt by ambac? i have seen several that were bad. they are surplus BECAUSE they are bad!! surplus or NOS does not mean it will work. take it apart and do my test. also what is in your tank is what lubes the HH, and it can wear out in a matter of a few minutes with the wrong fuel. tom

    OK, I'm done!!!

if you crack the lines at the injectors, and crank it, it does little more than dribble out, as there will be no pressure. now just because you have replaced the HH 3 times does NOT mean you have a good one. where have you been getting them?? there is a very good reason some things are surplus...

    overdrive gears available soon

kohburn, you are right, but up to 70 it has enough power. also at lower rpms it is more in the top of the torque curve so i would think that would effectively cancel the wind drag somewhat. i got the best mpg at 55, that must have been the balance point of power versus drag. tom

Hart Starting (not cold weather realted)

a 'loose' fitting can leak air and let fuel run back to tank, and do this without leaking fuel. have you replaced all the nylon fuel lines? this is highly reccomended as they are old and brittle and you will solve leaking issue at same time. does it start right up if you shut it off, wait 30...

    overdrive gears available soon

yes, you are right! well i will be happy when i am only 1 of 100 or more! offically now 2 trucks on the road with .69 OD tom

OOPS!!! Broke my HH quill gear!!!

not to be hard on you, i hope others learn from this, but this is why people should read the manual before working on stuff. especially something like the IP. HH removal is very simple and straight forward when done correctly. now you have the problem of timing it correctly, which has eluded...

    How to..... Transmission Changeout.

good write up! allow me to make this even easier for you. trans weighes 225 lbs. do not remove shifter, remove top cover. (you will almost surely have a usable gasket from one of the transmissions.) you will have much less trouble with the trans fitting in and around things like the frame...

    shackle mounts - forged?

just my opinion, i think they would be cast steel, not forged. tom

    overdrive gears available soon

all that information is on the web site (below) tom

    overdrive gears available soon

i plan to keep parts in stock, but it will depend on demand as to how often i have gears made so there may be short periods of time when they are not ready. as for exchange transmissions, the shipping cost of 250 lbs out and back might make that not work. most likely there will be people around...

Need some help with an oil leak.

i don't see where it is said what the oil level is when it leaks. that is VERY important as fuel in the oil will leak like mad when beyond a certain level. JDT, one of the most overlooked fuel leaks is the booster pump. it can literally put gallons of fuel in the oil in a very short time. tom
