6.5L GEP - Black Smoke when accelerating

Sounds about right. This is a 6.5L GEP that replaced the original 6.2L. So it's detuned for sure. (I was told that it was installed around 2003 by the army...). Then nothing except regular maintenance was done to the engine, until it had the head/head gasket issue that I had fixed over winter.

6.5L GEP - Black Smoke when accelerating

The air gauge on the dash doesn't show any real restriction, but.... Ok, went out and inspected the air filter. Has some minor debris (leaves) on it.. but not enough to block air flow. Cleaned off the lose debris. The intake on the hood DOES look like it was pushed down beyond where it was...

Engine speed for 200 AMP generator?

Was wondering if anyone knew how fast the engine needed to be spinning for the 200 AMP generator, to actually output 200 AMP - 24V? I'm assuming there is some sort of rule for shelter carriers or other similar high amp users to pulling the throttle out and having it enough to power various...

6.5L GEP - Black Smoke when accelerating

I've put about 150-200 miles on it since getting the head gasket/heads replaced. My butt dyno seems to think it has more torque (maybe more HP?). Tomorrow I'll go out and take off the intake and air filter and just verify everything. It didn't occur to me, but I didn't see the black until I...

6.5L GEP - Black Smoke when accelerating

6.5L N/A Flat land accelerating from 20 mph to 55. My foot is not all the way to the floor or anything. I see the black until I hit speed then it appears to disappear. with the recent head/head gasket replacement they did check the injectors and they all passed. I’m mostly worried the...

6.5L GEP - Black Smoke when accelerating

Some of you might be aware of my recent saga of head/head gasket problems and getting that stuff all replaced. I noticed yesterday that when I accelerate, there is a trail of black smoke. It's not a _LOT_, but it is visible. So I assume there is simply too much fuel going into the engine. At...

    TDM burnt out

Ya connectors like this melting means you have a short somewhere, possible intermittent, but definitely shouldn’t have connector problems.

    6.2L Water pump leaking M998

Replace all the rubber hoses, I.e. injector return hoses, coolant hoses, etc. otherwise head gasket, and heads if they are cracked/faulty. You will need new head bolts, and some additional gaskets. in my case I gave the shop A head gasket kit, bolts, the heads, and the injector copper...

    Caliper Internal Parts

Hmm I didn't think that kit had them all, I thought it was just the seals and caps.

    GP is selling doors

Pretty sure aftermarket doors. Be careful, RB is selling more and more stuff under specific brands to make it look more appealing. It wouldn't surprise me if even the X doors are a private sale. But so far, thinks like this I've seen separated by GovPlanet, IronPlanet, and general RB logos...

    Mystery wire/plug

There is a metal tag on the wire (or should be). Scape off any paint/debris and try to read the number. Also which truck version is this, between the number and the trucker version hopefully we can figure out what it attaches to from the TMs. (and if there is no metal tag, that is a good...

    Rapco Parts?

I've been going to rapco for a bit over a week now and their website appears to be completely broken. I emailed them, but no response. Anyone know what is going on? I'm certainly reluctant to do a paint order if their website has been broken for a couple of weeks now. (Mobile it will mostly...

    Caliper Internal Parts

I did some more looking, and the thrust bearing and spring shield just don't look like anyone documents replacement parts. My suggestion is straighten out/repair the spring shield as best you can. That likely will be fine. For the thrust bearing, you'll have to get some calipers and attempt...

M998 Humvee Running Light, Headlight, and Turn Signal Issue

I believe there is an LED/Incandescent and a Incandescent only box. I'm not 100% sure, but I THINK all of the modern ones support both.

HMMWV at local auction, this will be interesting!

Maybe someone filled it with a new milk based lubricant. No way it could be a cracked block/head/head gasket leaking in coolant.. :ROFLMAO:

    Caliper Internal Parts

The bearing is probably a generic bearing. If you can find an SKF or Timken catalog, you may be able to match it by description. (I've had to do this in the past on an old vehicle with no available service parts. It can take a bit of time, but I was able to find all of the bearings and seals.)

M998 Humvee Running Light, Headlight, and Turn Signal Issue

Check your grounds at the lights. I saw similar behavior when the grounds were bad on my vehicle.. (I had to clean them all.) If that doesn't resolve it, there are some trouble shooting steps in the TM that might help you, it's possible it's the blinker box.

Humvee wheel beadlock and run flats

Standard military configuration is 2-piece rims + the beadlock/runflat insert, most military HMMWVs do not have CTIS. Personally I don't want the weight and balance issues of the runflat (and I don't offroad where I'm expecting to have problems that would need a runflat), so I just use a PVC...

    Hmmwv rubber O-ring warped

Don't remember what brand I bought, but I got the smallest bucket I could. I'm pretty sure it'll last the rest of my life! But this was the first time I'd ever mounted my own tires, and I consider it a success in my case. Even though it did take many many hours to do all 4 tires.
