The "let the turbo cool" applies more to gasoline engine that runs a much higher EGT. Diesel is cooler EGT, and even today's gasoline turbos are coolant cooled to allow quick shut off with minimal coking.
I think Will is spot on here. Your EGT is going to be cool going to Home Depot to...
You silly rabbits, Trix are for kids. The mystery wire should feed the low side heater blower (12v). Factory alternators on these were unreliable when new, and worse yet at 25 years old or whatever. Ask grandma to run a stress test and see what happens. Your alternator wiped out from the...
The singles are 18 plys thick. They don't go flat very easily.
I don't think the 3116/3126 is the most reliable engine on the market, something about injector cup seals leaking coolant? Not sure of the detail, but an M35 cab is significantly smaller than a 939 cab.
I drove my 9 to take my...
It looks like you have done some homework. My vote is for the 925A2. Cummins 8.3 is about the most modern and reliable/maintenance free engine in retired MV's. You'd be hard pressed to find pics of any apart here because they just work. Do a fluid and filter change, replace the stock...
It should be able to support nearly the entire range from the popular $80 70 amp Chinese Delco clone, up to the high output/quality 130 amp model I sell. I am trial fitting one of the 100 amp genuine Delco brushless 33si models I have in stock onto an LDT-465 engine tonight which is one of the...
Compatible with all is the intention. Proto-1 just arrived today. Allow me a few days to look it over and test fit it up to my 8.3, a buddy's M35a2 LDT, and then I can throw it your way for feedback on a 250. I'll also be looking for a Humvee app if somebody wants to get paid for their time...
Hi folks. To those that have enjoyed my updated modern engine bolt on peripherals such as compact/light gear reduction starters, reliable high output alternators, and serpentine drive A/C compressor bracket kits, I want to say thank you. I probably don't say that enough. Each and every one of...
No pics needed, we know what you are talking about. The small spin on inline filter is supplied from Cummins on all 8.3's as part of the engine, the military has nothing to do with it. On some A2's, this is all there is, and that is fine. Some also have the large canister filter you soeak of...
Don't get soft on us! I was just lacing the gloves back up.....
Yep, simp's modded 250 did run good, against my stock 8.3 (pokes finger in opponent's eye).
You guy's are great. A lot of good knowledge and opinions backed by experience here. Wish I could have made the big rally. Envious...
You guys know what I am going to say.
There are 4 very common failure modes of the stock military alternator: weak electronics (regulator/rectifier) combined with terribly poor cooling, 1920's phone cable type wire connection, pulley deformation from weak interface to rotor shaft, and rotor...
Injection timing check and adjustment has nothing to do with pulling the front gear cover. Any timing adjustment can be made by pulling the injection pump gear loose off the pump shaft via the access port which the tach adapter is threaded onto.
If you were resealing the front cover anyway...
I have seen the MTVR box installed where the stock heater core box is. Inside would be better as then it can recirculate cold air vs always heating hot outside air.
The timing can be set to any amount desired since you pull the drive gear to do so regardless. If one want the timing advanced...
