My son was a Petroleum Specialist in the Army and they pulled the 7000 gallon fuel tankers with the M900 series trucks. I think grossing out a 5-ton with 80,000 pounds would be pushing it past it's limits. It's not getting it up to speed it's getting it to stop in a panic situation you have to...
Crazy? I think not.......with the cost of fuel you prob won't make any money on the deal but you might break even. And you'll still have the truck and trailer. Sounds like the adventure of a lifetime. Go for what you know and good luck.
To elaborate about the Sprague it will engage when the rear wheels are spinning (hopefully and usually after you are stuck). If the Sprague gets locked in (what we used to call "wound up" and you get on a hard surface the steering wheel will fight you like a buzz saw. When it releases with a...
As soon as you get your Paid Invoice you can arrange for pickup unless you have to submit an End User Certificate (EUC). If you have to do that you go into "EUC Limbo" until it clears. Once it clears and you arrange pick up you can usually drive it off if it is a runner after you make dead...
Welcome to the Green Iron Laughing Academy.
To "combat lock" a deuce lock one door from the inside (yes you can do that) and then unlatch one of the front windshields and reach in and lock the other door from the outside. Push the windshield closed and the doors are locked unless a prospective...
It is a removable convoy light. All the HETT's and PLS trucks came with them. A convoy of Hett's going down the road looked like a disco show.
The tractor by itself weighs north of 40,000 pounds. With that double breasted, two stroke Driptriot in it fuel milage is 2-3 miles per gallon on a...
Oh....while checking out the CAMO campground I found this. Like the good journalist I am I'm just presenting the facts. You readers can reach your own conclusions.
I headed out to Columbus, GA at zero dark thirty this morning to pickup a dropside bed I got in a drug deal (military term for horse trade) from Zout. I arrived before everybody (including the host himself) but the crowd soon arrived. We had a good breakfast (including some excellent SOS) and...
Just a heads up about the Hotlanta Truck Center......the vehicles are packed in like sardines and mixed up with the civy trucks. The event and lot numbers are hard to see.
That is one reason all active military units have "Motor Stables" once a week. I try to drive the M927 at least once a week to keep the juices flowing and to keep from having flat spots on the tires. In the older trucks with standard transmissions I don't think it was so critical.
I was over there yesterday and saw vehicles in all conditions from pristine to junk. The only thing I have to flat tow with is an M927 and you don't have enough money to get me to do it around Atlanta. The good news is that you can haul it with a "Hotshot Truck" if it has a dual wheel/axle...
You should have posted sooner....I was there yesterday. They are pretty helpful over there. The guy that helped me jump off the M1070 I loaded out and his buddy that ran the forklift went the extra mile to get us out of there. I don't go to Atlanta without a good reason. You might PM Zout....he...
Today I headed over to Sodom South (Atlanta) to load out Andy1234's new prize a M1070 HETT. We got in after the morning rush and before a 20 mile backup on the eastbound side of I-20. Mr. Murphy was on his toes and we had to jump start the beast using slave cables and an additional 24 volt jump...
