The M915's that had the CAT transmission in them would bump 80 if the fuel was turned up to 2350 RPM. My former Convoy Commander can attest to that because I passed him in West Texas in a CUCV that was running wide open. He was not amused.
With a sufficient amount of time and money you can do just about anything. My guess is that it could be done using a hydraulic clutch and a Fuller 9 speed but unless you have the fab skills and a very good shop it would be more cost effective to replace the Allison. One of the reasons I bought...
See...now you get it. GL makes the rules, GL can enforce the rules to suit their own ends. They have a monopoly and they know it. Some of this is DRMO's doing but my guess is that GL sometimes pulls items because they don't think they got enough money for them. But I have seen some stuff go...
To paraphrase Forrest Gump...."GL is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get." Hang in there Grasshopper...the perfect trailer will come to you.
No rhyme or reason on this. I have bought identical trucks on the same event number and had to do an EUC on one but not the other....go figure.....I think it's all in how DRMO codes them out.:cookoo:
The rep was there touting the system and when we got on the subject of military vehicles he said they were trying to sell the system to the gooberment. I can't remember the exact dollar amount but it was way past ten grand for a system to go on a large Ford or International.
They may have been to simulate riding in an up-armored truck without actually having one to use. I saw a lot of simulated up-armored HUMVEE's at Camp Shelby before they started issuing them to units that were mobilizing there.
I've been bugging him to make a rally with me but so far he hasn't made a big rally with me. He has gone to some of the local events where there are MV's. He has tried the Chile-mac but declared it an acquired taste he has yet to acquire.
The deuce and 800 series 5 tons were a classic case of Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS). I have driven both back to the motor pool with dead batteries, bad brakes (low range with escort vehicle), engine knocking like a bill collector, and otherwise battered and bruised. The new series of vehicles...
An M931 has a very stiff suspension and pulling 8000 pounds will not put enough weight on the rear to make a lot of difference. Since you said there will be a bed on the truck I assume you are using a bumper pull trailer. It will be a very rough ride. You will also need to modify the brake...
I have seen them use a big chain hooked to the pintle hitch or a lift shackle. There is a manual on vehicle recovery that tells how to rig just about any military vehicle for towing or recovery but the number escapes me now. It may be posted in the TM section.
Last year in FL they were selling dirt cheap.....so cheap I'm still kicking myself for not buying one. I loaded trucks that had less than 100 miles on them and most cost less than 25K. That was for a complete flatbed unit. The supply seems to have dried up but my inside source down there says...
The 900 series 5 ton tractors we had at Fort Benning may have been the first series. There may have been a MWO done on them later to update them. I don't remember there being a valve on them but that was quite a few years ago. I do remember having to hook the air lines up and open the valves by...
Today my youngest son Kyle and I made a pilgrimage to Tank Town USA located in NW Georgia. Tank Town is operated by Todd Liebross and is on the main Highway just north of Blue Ridge, GA. http://www.tanktownusa.com/ I had read about Tank Town in the local fish wrapper and knew Todd was someone...
