I'd also point towards slightly loose suspension components. I drive MTVR's all the time and they run 16R20 Radials and weigh more than that setup with no drift or erratic steering at all.
10-4, air cleaner looked fairly new and the canister was clean. I drove the truck this afternoon and it ran pretty good. I kept it really slow on just my dirt road as the truck seems to have a leaking wheel cylinder. It has nearly no brakes until just at the bottom of the pedal travel. They...
Hooked up the fuel lines to the filter and driver's side tank, gave her a sniff of ether and she's back up and running again. I don't see any leaks from the tank selector valve or anywhere else so the truck should be good to go. If it were my truck, I'd still probably replace the rubber hoses...
The TM searching seemed to answer my last question. The fuel that's coming out must be return fuel and it's coming right out since the lines aren't hooked to the tank select valve. Makes me start to question whether it was sucking in air at that valve since I fixed the air leak that was...
I plugged the fitting leading to the primer assembly. Now the truck starts, revs and idles decently. Now onto the fun task of replacing tank switch hoses. Currently the tank switch is bypassed but it still sprays fuel from the outlet side of the valve. What is pressuring the fuel and causing...
I drained the fuel filter (lots of water). Now I can't get the system to prime. I don't think the primer on the dash works. I took it apart and lubed the inside of it but had no luck even after about 10 minutes of pumping. I'm considering capping the fitting that currently has the plastic...
The owner did bypass the tank selector valve and just has the driver's side tank connected to the fuel filter inlet. Can anyone provide a good Napa part # for the fuel filter? I'll be able to look at the truck a little more this afternoon and will try the simple stuff like draining the fuel...
I helped another member recover a M817 out of Albany. The truck made it to my house (15 Miles) but is running poorly. It will only run at full throttle and if you let the clutch out too quickly and bring the rpm's down, it will stall. It is hard to crank without ether as well. Please steer...
I am actually surprised by the poll. I'm 27 and figured I would fall into the unheard of category. I'm happy that kids my age are into the hobby and keeping the green stuff rolling!!!!!! For those in the older categories, Thanks for supporting the kids in this hobby (Those that have helped me...
Any idea's on where to find the correct seals? I'm not so much concerned about cost, I'd just like to do the job correctly with the correct parts so that it does not become a common task. Of course, pulling the hubs and repacking the bearings is an annual task according to the lube order so...
Well, trucks back together now. I seem to have run into the "Chinese Outer Seal" issue that I've read about. The hub doesn't get too hot, just warmer than the others. I'm certain of the wheel bearing grease and the bearing preload since I've read quite a bit on doing this project. I looked...
You're correct gringeltaube, I just checked over BFR's pic by pic writeup. My background is in working on light automotive applications. Normally they just use a locking washer and sometimes a cotter pin in conjunction with the locking washer. I have searched around the TM's some but most...
Well, I tore down the leaking axle side and Stumps is the winner. The bearings still had a small amount of grease left and nothing looked blued or scored as far as the bearings/races/axle. I guess I got lucky on that end of it. It does appear my leak was caused by PVT Joe Snuffy beating on...
The M35 Series got replaced by the FMTV and then got phased out pretty quick. The National Guard held onto them until they received their FMTV's. There truly are some nice, low usage trucks that are going to auction. Why did the govn't do this? It takes alot more staff, warehouse's, and...
No, I was "out bid" on a truck that I had previously set my max at 3K. The truck sold for a little over 5K and my last "bid?" was for 5,500 (I did not place a bid for that price at any point) and the winning bid just the minimum above that and it was an autobid placed by the winner who had...
Could not have said it better wreckerman893. Everyone else, "stay away from those listings that say does not start"!!!! Mine said that, I worried night and day for my EUC to clear, once I got authorization, I put a pair of batteries in and it started as if it were parked there the day prior.
Bidded on some trucks in the last auction and gave up early. I saw my bidder id used one time after I quit for much more than I would have bidded on a closed lot around 7pm tonight. Has this ever happened to anyone? I noticed the winner beat "me?" on an auto bid and I've heard the speculation...
Appreciate the info, it seems like it's been done before and as long as I'm careful and mindful of the load, I should be good to go.
Derek,
I'm happy to hear the 818's you got from Albany started up just fine. I know the trucks out of Albany look rough cosmetically but they are solid trucks...
Has anyone here towbared an M818 behind a Deuce? I may have to move one about 15 miles and was wondering if it's ever been done. The route would be rural and of course at relatively low speeds. Just curious as to whether it would be possible.
