Has anyone removed the turbo from a deuce just to safely "blow smoke"?

To get the full effect of your desired result, duct the exhaust into the cab or at least have it dicharge so that it blows back in your face.

    1984 M1028 CUCV – parts/scrap or beater truck?

I view things differently. Each of the problems you described could be patched up in short order. Looks like a perfect truck for dump runs and such. I would establish a hard line in the sand on any costly repairs and an overall budget. Once a single item exceeds that or a series of failures...

Tailgate lift assist using spring hinges... with photos!

You could always weld in a small piece of tube for the end of the spring to go in.

    M1008 Fuel Mileage

Claims and facts aren't the same. Many folks exaggerate the mileage of a 6.2. My recent trip north in an 8500# SECM towing a half loaded (weight wise) M101 netted as low as 10.5 and one tank over 12. Truck has 235 tires but an SM465 and 4.10 gears. 400 turbo to SM made no nnoticeable difference...

Please read this if you use brake clean

Despite the fact that it isn't quite as effective, I will only buy non chlorinated brake clean.

    Bumper mounted vise

This is only limited by your imagination. For the non fabricating crowd, Harbor Fright sells 2 different rating bolt on recievers. The expedition folks use the heck out of this design for everything from tables to grills to shower heads. Good stuff here. If you have a massive vise/vice, you...

    CUCV-II (CUCV2) Dually

Outstanding. I hope the journey is boring and uneventful. We came up here to the GA house a few weeks back in the SECM. Had a blowout in Atlanta traffic. I was super happy about having 4 back tires that day. Love the duallys.

    CUCV Mystery part?

Somehow this got switched to a death wobble thread. The bracket in question may or may not have been used for a stabilizer but it is unlikely that death wobble was the issue. The vehicle it came from never came with a 60F.

    Bumper mounted vise

After one gets over the chuckle of that, they might reconsider. That would be handy for a lot of things. I have a decent Yost vise on my slide out work bench in my SECM. I also have a tiny Wilton on the tailgate. I use the Wilton 25 times for every time I use the Yost.
