They are still available but prices are inching up every day....three years ago I was buying them for 1000 bucks and driving them home.
A lot of the ones being sold now are the dregs that units waited to the end to turn in so they would not have to put any money into them to bring them up to...
Welcome to the Green Iron Laughing Accademy.:cookoo:
You just missed the greatest Steel Soldiers rally on the planet.
Check out this link to see what you missed: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/conversations/96264-official-2012-ga-rally-multimedia-thread.html
If you hurry you can be ready for...
Kevin,
I'll be bringing the "Long Green Line" down there. I was going to ask when the early birds were going to arrive but you answered that question. See ya there.
What kind of bed do you have? M105, cut down deuce, custom?
If it is a military bed you can make stakes to go into the pockets in the bed.
You can use any hardwood such as oak, hickory, ash, etc. for the side slats.
Use stove bolts to fasten them together and paint them green if that is...
You can extend the side supports but you would have to have the cargo cover extended.
Any place that makes tarps could fab you up a cover.
I think I remember the unit next to mine in Germany having one with a cover on it. Since they were not authorized a wrecker they used the deuce and hoist...
Many thanks to all those that bought shirts and caps pre-rally (mail order) and who bought them at the rally.
I have 16 hats and 32 shirts left.
The breakdown is:
11 each Large ash (long sleeve)
0 each XL ash
3 each 4XL black (short sleeve)
4 each large black
2 each small black

Well....I'm in the recovery phase of this operation....getting all the dirty clothes and linen out of the big green RV that I dragged up there with an equally big truck.
I'll let Mike give out the report on how many folks we fed (that's why you had to sign the headcount sheet).
Once again it...
Memphis Equipment and other surplus dealers refurbish trucks. Many of them used fiberglass tops. I'm not sure if they were used by the military unless it was the National Guard. Guard units had more leeway in the purchase of off the shelf items to go on their trucks.
In my 34 years of service...
The Boss Lady and I made it in around 4 oclock Bammer time.
No issues....the "Long Green Line" ran like a champ.
No traffic issues, no mechanical probs.
The Boss Lady even won 22 bucks on scratch off tickets when we stopped for a break.
There may be one on "gate guardian" duty somewhre but I don't think there are any on active duty.
I think there is one at the musuem at Camp Shelby, MS.
Are you sure it doesn't say RRAD........that would be Red River Army Depot.
It could have been completely rebuilt or just had some Modification Work Orders (MWO) done on it.
Another beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Folks keep rolling in......there are more military vehicles here than in some unit Motor Pools I've been in.
We got the MKT up and running and served a hot dog and bean supper.
Tomorrow we will have a piping hot breakfast with all the fixins...
There are folks around most GL sites that will do recoveries and shipping.
You need to be specific about what, when and were you need something moved.
I can help you out at Redstone or Anniston Army Depot.
The Boss Lady and I made it around 2:30 GA time Tuesday.
The Road Train did a lot better than I expected. On the flats she would hold 55 (sweet spot) but did pull down on the hills. Manuvering was easier too.....with two pivot points it turns pretty good.
Downhill with a tailwind she'll do...
If I stopped on the GA/AL line the truck would be on Eastern time and the trailer would be on Central.
I intend to go all the way over to the far shoulder of the road and then turn left. I'll have the front wheel drive kicked in just in case the trailer wheels drop off into the...
