New paint, new tires and power steering might make me overlook the welded diff's. Some pics would be helpful.
1. Is it a winch? Air shift? Spring ride seat? Dropside? Etc.
2. How good is the paint-is it a crappy "spray bomb" job or did it get sandblasted, epoxy primed and properly...
I have no idea what 2 used chunks would cost-I wouldn't pay much, since they're so common. Maybe $100-200 each? I just don't know.
Swapping them out is just like a Ford 9" except the chunk comes out of the top, not the front.
For an amateur it's probably an all day job. And they're heavy...
Short background:
Differentials allow the left and right axle to rotate at different speeds. When you are moving forward and turn left, the passenger side tire rotates faster than the left, because it's having to travel a further distance. If this doesn't make sense, draw the tire tracks of a...
Ditto to Derrick's comment.
Plan on replacing both of the rear pumpkins (chunks, 3rd member, etc) with used take outs.
Also, the kind of people who do that kind of thing are also the kind of people who do other things that might be considered "bad".
I saw plenty of musclecars with homemade...
I told clintogf to make Tony an offer on his! He doesn't need it like I do! rofl
I just need the money for it! Already have the 30x40 reinforced concrete pad. I didn't think it would be this hard to come up with 15-20K $$$$$$$.
If only I was at home (or had not been too lazy to set up...

Stood on the frame in front of the cab.
Tilted it down in the front, up in the back, then rolled it backwards so that the rear of the cab cleared the front of the cargo bed.
Then I reached down and grabbed the front of the cab, pivoted it up and...
If you've never parted one of these out, there's more to it than you think. They are simple, but it's a 25' long, 14K lb truck worth of simple. It is a heck of a lot less work to swap and engine rather than parting it out.
Swapping an engine is easy, cheap is you can get a deal on a good...
Ok, several things:
The shaft is exactly .2500". See pics. The flat side is 180 degrees from where the pointer points.
I shall find a knob at one of the many links ya'll provided. Gracias.
The NSN is 5995-00-950-7685. It has a part # as well, M82001E. Also, see pics.
Will update this...
I am going to measure the shaft tonight-I was busy liberating the city of Carentan last night and couldn't be pulled away from the task.
I have to run to town tonight to swap my oxy/acetylene bottles, when I do, I'll hit my radio shack/hardware store and let you guys know.
Thanks for all the...
I wasn't sure which forum to put this in................
I have one of the military 24-12 converters for trailers. Plug one end into the 24V vehicle's trailer socket, plug your civilian trailer into the other end and voila, the trailer's 12V stuff works fine.
However, I dropped a tie rod end...
