I just read the manual and it states that the CAT motor can run at a maximum permissible RPM of 2,700. I am not sure I'd want to run it up that high for prolonged use. Personally, I think 2,500 is about the maximum I'd want to push it, but I really don't know the truck yet.
READYMAN, yes, the truck came out of IL. A friend of mine spoke to the Staff Sergeant, too. He basically said that they were using the truck until earlier this year and he really did not want to turn it in...but he received the paperwork indicating that the truck had to be turned in and he...
Does anyone know where I can find one of the later one-piece hoods for an M35A3? I believe they were fiberglass, but I might be mistaken. I will try to take some pics in the next few days. Here are a couple of pics from the auction.
RE: From the Army 1997 Weapon Systems book
By the way, David, thanks for sharing the info on the truck! When you return, you are welcome to put the truck throught it's paces...
RE: From the Army 1997 Weapon Systems book
I was one of the people that did not like the truck, but it was based mainly on its looks and the reviews I've read from active-duty soldiers who have operated them. The truck has grown on me. I said it once before...the only way I'd buy one is if I...
I just got my M35A3 home and, after swapping out the batteries, fired her up. Man, that truck is nice! I am not sure why the Army did not warm up to them. They truly seem like a huge improvement over the old M35A2. I have heard that the CTIS was problematic. Fortunately, mine works. The...
I am attaching a few pics of a 4 color M109A3 that I own. I agree, when it is clean, I prefer the 4 color camo over the later 3 color camo scheme. With that said, it is almost impossible to find really clean examples of the 4 color trucks because they most often have been repainted with the 3...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: motor life span
The most common failure mode that I've seen is a rod through the block. Let's face it guys, most of us drive our trucks way faster than they were designed. Assuming your truck is stock, if you are driving 55 mph, you are driving your deuce too fast...
I am not sure why that truck did not catch on with the military. From all reports, it seems to have been a great truck off-road. Bjorn, you have done a great job...but, knowing you, I would not have expected anything less!
WARWICK: My reco...just replace the hood. They are around. Call John Winslow (252-883-2509). The hood seems to be the worst area of surface rust. With the hood replaced, you can tackle the more manageable fenders. Less sanding...less CARC dust...less risk. When you get ready to tackle the...
Perhaps, I misunderstood you, but I am not sure how this plan will lower prices. I believe they indicated that the minium acceptable bid was 4.5% of acquisition value. On a truck, that is more than they are bringing now on average.
What are you looking to spend? I can tell you that you will not find a truck like that for less than $50K...but most likely more. there is a guy in KY that has one...very nice...not 100% original...for somewhere near $75-85K.
