I've pondered may different solutions on this but I'm going to try a different route here soon. I will be hot gluing EL Wire to the back of the metal light deflector that surrounds the gauges. Problem with EL is it's not that easy to dim. Should be an interesting experiment.

That shift really needs to be completed in neutral. My SOP is to slow to a crawl, 2MPH or so, toss trans in neutral then shift transfer case while still in a slight roll. Makes the shift easily.

When I did all the rear lights in my SECM, they were all LEDs. All have power all the time and circuit completed with the grounds. Not done yet but pin switches on all the compartment doors so that they have lights. Might as well add door pin switches.
