Depends on how much effort you want to put into the job. Finding a PTO is a good start. The plate on the side of the transmission is where that will live. After you get a PTO, some linkage to operate the new gearbox. Then a driveshaft, a set of bumper extensions and a winch. It is easy to...

I agree that the belts should be lasting for multiple years for sure. It could be alignment like cucvmule mentioned. Are you using a good NEW (not a military antique) belt like nyoffroad suggested? Is it possible that one of the pulleys has a dent in it or a sharp spot on one side that is...

Neat trick... That is a "old guy trick" that I was taught long ago.
A thermostat in a pot of water on the stove and a thermometer is the sure fire verification test!

I'm not being a smart-a$$, but fuel is up over a dollar a gallon and still climbing.
The guys who drag our green toys have to make a buck too - even though it sucks like a vacuum cleaner attached to your wallet.

Another possibility for the hoses are the mobile hydraulic shops - with a van, a fist full of wrenches and a hose crimper. Especially if you need longer hoses. Don't let the old hoses get away though... Like @Coug mentioned, you can reuse those fittings and make your own hose if you buy a...

From the east coast of the United States - a very warm Welcome to the outfit!
I like the looks of your truck for sure. Happy to hear that you have already found the TM's and have them "at the ready". There are several guys who really know these CUCV's inside and out. They are a lot more...

Need to find yourself a pal up there with another truck similar in size you yours - and a tow bar. Then you could build confidence in both vehicles and get yourselves home on the cheap if something does go wrong.
Of course, I say all that and I have nobody really close by me either... The...

Really Nice! The pink box doughnut shops are a few steps above Krispy Kreme.
Last time I went to a place like that, they had doughnuts Maple Icing on them WITH BACON (Yum!!)

It is neat to see that sort of pre-planning. Our city has more of our money than they know what to do with. On the other hand, a few years ago I was really impressed when the Fire Department installed clamp on exhaust hoses with an evacuator fan to force truck exhaust out of the building...

Welcome to the outfit!
Like Third From Texas mentioned - the books will take you a long way. Troubleshooting and Flow Charts to follow to solve problems. Knowing the name of those two pieces of rubber behind the grille that the TM's call a "Cab Support" that other folks might call a...

Didn't I read earlier in this thread where the plan is to be able to lock up the converter with a combination of manual switches.
Post #50 explains the highlights - with more to follow:

Got to admit that if I was standing there looking at a really heavy toolbox that needed to get from the ground to the truck - yep - the davit is going to do that job! We all do it. Just hopefully not standing under the load when it gets lifted. Gotta always be ready to run just in case

The metal "flapper" on the end of the vent can sometimes be cleaned with a can of Brake Parts Cleaner. Helps get rid of the sticky if that is your problem. Some vents are pushed up in a rubber tube behind the cab - to be above the water line - and that piece of tubing could have collapsed...

I was looking around to find the NSN and about all I found was an Upper Spare Tire Davit listed as PN#SS-DAK-5TM939. Couldn't seem to find the specs on it and there are some differences between newer trucks and older. The TM's don't specify a lifting capacity - but points more to its...
