Like I said they have to back to DOD for DEMIL (scrap). I asked senator/rep office to tell me why they can't be sold. I have read story the GM/gov't motors had a fit years ago about it but haven't seen any orginal source document that states such. In any case GM closed down "HUMMER" some time...
I've long worked DOD surplus for equipment for my Fire Dept (I'm Chief). At Ft McCoy last week and find that they have recently started receiving dozens of early HMMWV that Sam is not going to rebuild. The trucks I looked a were very clean low mile (less than 20k) in good condition. Exactly...
A neighoboring fire dept has been allocated some rescue tools thru DRMS at Anchorage. This would be "Jaws of Life" type equipment. Sounds like they are getting a cutter and a spreader (used to slice open a car wreck). Typically something like 35-50lb per piece. Hopefully can to DOD to send...
What I'd want to know 1st is if they actually can legally sell the thing to the public. Many similar vehicles are to be returned to DOD when the cops are done with them (cops received thru LESO program). Depends on the Demil code.
For example the HMMWV now showing up in volume at DRMO...
So what's your take or issues?
915A2 - Detroit (electronic) with nonelectronic/non Overdrive Allison vs
M915A4 - Old tech Cummins with modern OD Allison.
Both are hermaphrodites. Have you worked on both?
Over the road I'd think the A2 not great option.
Indicating nothing about transmission or previous brand of service there are 9ea M916A1 listed at DRMS Barstow. Apparently Sam is also dumping M916A1 as currently 22ea list around CONUS (no M916 listed, perhaps all gone).
The M35A3 is the most easily available DOD surplus truck suitable for brush/wildland use. A a great option for a rural FD. Much more suitable for our operations than the older versions. Now is the time to get one as DOD is apparently getting rid og all the duece. There is no other vehicle that...
Because they are rode hard and put up wet (in salt water). And the Marines don't konw any more about maintenance than the typical African hellhole.
Best bet for condiiton and well maintained is AirFarce. Don't take them off paved roads or out of the Hilton parking lot. Well maintained by an...
Apparently - M915A3. A bunch will be showing up at Camp Dodge that didn't get reutilized by local FD (too many at one time).
Now I see I just missed what I'd been waiting on. M915A2 at Ft McCoy/Sparta. 24ea that roll out of Donation status tonight. Dang. Probably the rumored unissued rebuilds...
