What he said. The re-pop ones I just bought were less than desired also. Seems like they were made on a home printer with very weak adhesive. Not original color, etc.... I appreciate their effort, but it was not what I was looking for.
It is a knarly design. It has crankcase oil and the oiling system is same as any 4 stroke engine. But, it has ported cylinders for intake and exhaust valves in the head. The blower is required to push the fresh air in which pushes the exhaust out. Has 3 rocker arms per cylinder, the center...
The H4 conversion is such an awesome upgrade. I highly recommend this over LED. For just a pinch more $, you can get genuine Hella globes and bulbs, and everything in front you becomes daylight, even with legal rated bulbs.
On the coolant topic, I also did a 3 stage coolant flush. I did replace my radiator last year with a brand new one, but I wanted to clean the block, hoses, trans cooler, heater core, thermostat housing, all that. After much research, this is the process I followed:
1. Drained existing...
Just thought I would throw up a pic of a 6-71 Detroit I have in storage. It is a 1982, and came factory with both a turbocharger and supercharger. Much like a lot of the V-8 Detroit Diesels did also, it was more rare of a 6 cylinder to have the same setup. Has a 7 speed spicer bolted to it...
Of course I'd answer the phone. All the connections would be clearly labeled when received, and it will even charge weak and dead batteries without committing suicide like the factory alternator does (most people here advise to fully charge your batteries as to not over-tax the factory...
Leece Neville is the low cost end of alternators, which is one reason why you will find them on equipment.
I'm considering to offer a brand new (not reman) high quality 24V alternator rated at 130 amps, which is rated for over double the capacity of the original alternator. Includes remote...
Exactly. These are Chinese, they are not Delco. You are not going to buy a brand new (not reman) Delco for $100. A brand new genuine Delco 22si will probably cost you $300-$400 or so.
Bummer story. Did the alternator they supplied work and is still working? I'm tracking these Chinese Delco clone alternators ($70-$150) to see if they work when new and how long they are lasting for people. Sorry on the pulley.
The heaters are robust. They will burn out quickly if turned on dry or if the block is not full of coolant. The 6CTA8.3 starts relatively well, even in the winter, in my personal opinion. Even without ether assist. The 8.3 also has an oil pan port for an engine oil heater, I bought and put...
I didn't have to rewind my winch cable "backwards" onto the drum when I added the level wind. It did have to feed it up from the drum back side and over the level wind, vs pay out from the front side of the drum and under the horizontal fairlead roller, but the direction of which the cable is...
Picked up the 12' extension tubes today at lunch. Same ID/OD as the inner tube of a medium tow bar, since I will use the outer tow bar portion as the endmost crane piece. Real US steel made to ASTM specs. A deal at $200 cash total for both pieces. This is 1/4" thick wall structural tube. Need...
The 6CTA8.3 already comes with an HX40 turbo. Next step would be HX50, HX52, or HX55. I'd say HX50 if auto trans. But, an HX40 can make a lot of intake boost. I think some people are nearly at 40psi or so. I'd reference the drive pressure (exhaust side) before just swapping it out. Any...
That's a Chinese clone of a Delco alternator, to paint a clearer picture. But, their cloning technology is increasing quickly and is nearly a mirror image now. It seems to be working well for people here though. The trucks are not used daily, and the alternator load is very light.
The only...
You should remove the live eBay links very quickly. If a moderator does it for you before you do, they will likely give you a 30 day ban from the board or so. They really don't warn about them. The action will probably happen in less than an hour from your post.
The hose connections on...
Rock auto probably has it for even half of that, I have good luck with them. Do a search here, a couple have done it and show the mods needed to the box, it is minor and easy to do. The core doesn't fit exactly, and one side needs to be slightly built up with adhesive backed weather strip or...
I think so. You have a perfect storm working against you.
1. Diesel engines don't generate nearly the same amount of heat as a gasoline engine.
2. The heater is always breathing in outside air.
3. The heater core box is steel and located outside.
If I was going to leave mine under the...
My hood and grill cleared the front level wind on my 925. I have seen a different prop rod length available, not sure if that is just 923/5 difference, or if it is for the level wind. Possibly mine had a level wind prop rod to begin with.
I don't, I sold them together. The are a little more difficult to find, and not very low cost. It was going to be like $700 or so to buy both used. Entire 925 front cut off came up in classified that had a level wind on it. I bought it all for $700 because I wanted the hydro winch for the...
