When I was a kid and those things first came out, I remember they were called "Jersey Barriers" here on the east coast.
Then I was hitchhiking some cross-country, and got a kick out of how the exact same things were all referred to as "Denver Barriers" when you got out west.
I wonder what it was about WWII Germany that gave them all that initial edge in aeronautical/ rocket technology.
I'm guessing it was just the genius of von Braun (the house where he lived in the U.S. after WWII is just a few blocks from my house here).
But I wonder if there was more to it than...

If you don't know it already, it's never a bad idea to wear gloves when working with rough-sawn oak like that.
It's great material, but you can pick up some nasty splinters from the stuff.

I remember old school. There were movies about "CB Truckin", and my buddies all had their traveling handles and CB units in their cars:

You're not kidding "big and chunky", it looks like something you'd see as an accessory on rolling armor inserted of only a truck. It looks real fine.
Is that made of 5/8" or maybe even 3/4" plate?
