Believing the KISS principle I just run military composite taillight assembly on 12V when tow with civ vehicle (spliced in a flat 4 connector into the mil light harness). Bright on enough 12V to make me happy. Put 24V bulbs on your trailer and leave them.
That would be my guess as well. AF seems to reuse one NSN for multiple buys of equipment to meet a GSA standard. Case or CAT backhoes are not std Army equipment, if Army property would be non NSN I think.
Might check GSA catalog to see what you find. Or contact Case Gov't contracting.
M800 series are zero cost (transport only). Good point on the M923 with Allison. Was an MT series as I recall. Will have to check. MT take outs are inexpensive.
I'd really like to know how the M900 series that are in civilian hands are getting there. Apparently are not going thru the DRMS...
Yeah yeah. Not the point. As we all know the majority of US drivers can't operate a Honda with a manual transmission. And the debate over "not a man/can't be a truck driver unless can operate a 43sp Roadranger in an icestorm pulling a triple bottom over Donner Pass (no chains allow)" probably...
MT653 are readily available as take outs for $2500 as many used in midsize lease/rental trucks.
Already discuss the why. Very nice 5t sit unissued at state forester FEPP yards. Most FD, regardless of the need for chassis, will not take them. The only FD that will are those that have a couple...
Mounted on M832 dolly set (10000lb capacity 9900lb genset). Frame rails are 5"x5" box with a 2"x2" angle for a bolt flange. Dolly allows us to set unit on the ground for operation. Still need to splice in civ trailer light connector and install safety chains.
I'm looking for ref to conversion of M800 series 5ton to Allison Automatic.
Issue us that many very good 5t are available surplus to Fire Depts. Many are in very good low mile. Most rural FD could well use for tanker chassis or wildland. BUT most will not take anything unless it has an...
I now have the TM for the MEP009A (Cat engine). Looks to answer our questions for hookup as apparently same as our MEP009B (Cummins engine). Simple with the manual (but not intuitive).
RE: prime
Call your local Fire chief and ask if they have an experinced FF/engine operator that might help you. Offer to make unit available in emergency situation for tanker fill or dewatering ops. FD is good friend to have.
For those converting mil veh for FD use.
If you need 6TL batteries contact Exide (or perhaps other mfg as well). Exide will donate 2nds/blems to FD at no cost. We have an Exide plant that makes truckloads of 6TL so works very easy for us.
Drop side is great as at least allows to remove the sides for FD use. We priced out a new Al bed from a local Mfg. With guard rails etc for our FD use and I think was around $5k. We were able to find a good used bed for aroudn $1300 which we modified and worked out great. www.stanleyiowa.com

Chance that they will get to govliquidation - ZERO
Lots of electric out in Iowa for the last week. So far my town has dodged the bullet but heavy rain this morning changing to sleet and several inches of snow forcast for the next 36hr. More snow North of us.
Anyhow I/my FD has a MEP009B 200kw genset (w/18hr) I got from DOD thru the FEPP...
Let me make sure I understand.
You're going to take a perfectly usable civilian vehicle and paint it with POS CARC paint???? And then wash it??
I assume the next step is waxing the paint and armorall the tires. Or perhaps brakefluild for the tires?
