Paragraph E-3 on page E-2 of appendix F behind the -20 TM tells you exactly how much pressure should be used to tighten each and every belt on the engine. You will need a belt tension gauge to set it right.
The idea is to pull the belts tight enough not to slip, but not so tight they wear out...
Now that you have a pair of known good batteries. Test the alternators with the engine running. 14.4 volts each and 28.8 total across both batteries. If you have that, then they are both working correctly. They might not be shutting off correctly though.
Are either of the GEN lights dimly...
Lee,
You didn't state it and nobody asked. You ok? I remember your neck or back gave you trouble after the M715 incident.
You seem to have your usual bulldog approach to resolving issues well in hand on this case, so I won't offer advice on that part of it.
I hope it works out good for...
When dealing with electrical stuff. A moving fault normally means bad grounds or a bad/shorted out connector somewhere. I know you said you tested each part seperately. However, it might be time to start over and testing each compent by pulling the battery cables off the bats, undo them from...
Was the starter spinning like crazy without engagine or just makine noise? It seems like you have a starter relay problem, a possible starter switch problem, a starter solenoid problem and maybe a non 24V source for your starter motor itself.
Previous post have already talked you through...
I have 4 gallons of BFS surplus that was sealed in the cans and kind of a neon yellow or golden color. Yes, there are other colors for it besides purple.
You might have to remove the pipe between the turbo and the intake to un screw the leaking part. Just wanted to warn you that the job is bigger than it looks to take it off.
Just part of playing with the trucks. Here is the shot of the M715 high centered since most people were either not there yet or still asleep when I stuck it.
There are numerous threads about checking the alternators on the CUCV's. Just about all that can be written about them, has. Reading the troubleshooting section of the -20 manual will also tell you how to go about checking things out.
Have you done the resistance test on each glow plug? Just because they are getting power doesn't mean they are working.
The TM 9-2320-289-20 manual really should be in your hand anytime there is a problem with the truck. It has a huge trouble shooting section that will walk you through...
I am Chief 12 flats now. Starting with the 2008 Colorado M715 trip to yesterday.
Thanks for the pictures of Colton driving Charles. It was funny to hear him talk about how much fun this was until we went down a pretty steep curvy washout. "You better drive now, you better drive now, you need...
We had a great time as well. I haven't gotten my pictures off the phone yet though.
Lost all the wheel studs on the drivers rear tire of the trailer about 20 miles from home. Allen chased down the bouncing wheel while I tried to get stopped and off the road. Since Pistolnut still had my tow...
Or, just put in a longer bolt and put a nut on the back. I take it you are talking about the top adjustment bolt in the bracket with the slot for sliding in and out?
There is a guy on the Zone, Mikel, that has a J truck with a 4BT in it. He claims 25 plus mpg. Just something to think about if the old 230 Tornado goes out.
There are a lot of "Yes, count me in" types that haven't posted in a long time. We probably won't know the count until it is over. We should have at least 6 or 8 different "family units" at a minimum tonight.
Colton's fever broke a little after 2100 last night. He is feeling great now and...
