We had fun building it. Most of it is steel, sheet metal. With some of the machined out or cut out parts aluminum , easier and quicker to machine out. You really could do this with no machining though. The rivets are pop rivets with the hole in the head filled with body filler, to look like real...
If anybody is interested in building one, I'd be glad to give you some info on what material was used. We're now looking for our next project and was thinking 105 Howitzer.
My son and I just finished our replica .50 cal gun and mount for the 5 ton. We also added ALICE packs to the M35. We drove them both to the Jeep event here this past weekend and everybody seemed to like them.
The gun, when unpinned, will rotate 360 and elevate and lower. The "S" shaped mount its...
Welcome from another Marylander. Tons of info here and links to all the TM's you'll ever need. Search works pretty good too and if you cant find it here try google and usually will take you right back here.
3DAngus > When I was in the Marines in the early 80's we had them on our M35s and used them. The M35 I have now has one 'and I have the tools in it. If it wasnt raining cats and dogs I'd go take you a picture. Don't know about the trucks used in Vietnam as I'm a little young for that, but I...
Funny I just checked out my "no" horn issue yesterday. (M813) Then pop in here and find a thread.
What I found on mine was, I have no voltage at the horn solonoid. I used a 24 volt test light and checked both terminals. One should be "hot" its not. So I followed wire #25 back to the circuit...
I found in search some old posts referring to this article. Not sure if I should have posted link or not as in the posts talks about copy rights.
I found it on the internet so would seem to me open to everyone to view. But if I should not have posted, Mods please remove.
Found this article and thought it was interesting reading about M35 serial/vin numbers. The years built and the different companies that built them.

Is that model jeep like the M35's, M151's and M813's??? With no key, the average joe wouldnt know how to start one quickly. My point is, maybe it was somone who has some knowledge of these vehicles, versus some teens. Shoot most teens can't drive manual transmission anyway :driver:Any rate, good...
I've bought one from each. So have had experience with both. Was very lucky both times. Bought our first MV [M35 w/winch] from private seller. With extra engine, troop racks, trans and transfer case and drove home 150 miles with title. Very fair price. Yes it needed all the usual maintenance...
Mastercool seems like they make good stuff. I have a AC manifold set from mastercraft and works well. NAPA sells it as well.
I wouldn't buy a cheap flaring bar either. You can buy a qualty set like this one that will make all the brake lines you ever need. [I have this one] Spend the difference...
I agree with you guys on how nice the tool is. My thoughts are, its to expensive for the number of times a normal person needs it. I work in a shop that maintains 400+ vehicles and we dont have one. Of course lots of air brakes, but anytime a hydraulic brake line is needed we just use the simple...
4 1/2" grinder with a cut off wheel wheel works awesome. Smokes alot and will use up a couple wheels, but has no trouble with the steel cord. Got the idea from cutting 2 wire hydraulic hose on the road with it.
Ps: road truck had a welder so had electric
Deuceman51. Looking at your list of equipment and considering the condition of surplus trucks brake lines, you may have done a good thing by buying the hydraulic flaring tool. But for most who only use occasionally, its not worth the cost.
That looks way over kill to flare some brake lines. You can get a simple double flaring tool for much less. Unless the M1008 has some weird flared tubing.

I also saw them on tv at the battle of Hue, firing a recoiless rifle down a street.
I used one in Cuba in the early 80's with 2 wire reels mounted on it for pulling comm wire. Pretty fun to drive really.
