I do use low range around the yard alot, but no I dont back the trailer[105] up full speed, you have to "ride" the clutch some, just like any other manual transmission in a tractor or a truck. Clutchs are built to slip some, this doesnt mean excessive and I would let out fully as soon as I can...
They all do seem to have a nature of their own. My duece doesnt like to downshift from 5th-4th when cold. Upshift in any gears are fine. After warm up, a few miles, its fine. Like most vehicles they all have their quirks.
If it cranks over, most likely there is nothing [no coolant] in the cylinder. Not sure thats anything you have to worry with as long as your not losing coolant. Just make sure all fluids are good.
Its a clutch, its made to slip some. There is a post here discussing that. I disagree with the start off in first idea, unless you need to. but to each their own. Certanly is easy on stuff in first, just don't think its necessary. I drove M35's in the Marines, and never started in first unless...
Say Bio-Diesel and I cringe. The Co I work for tried B20 a couple years ago and we replaced 12 F550 fuel tanks, eat the lining right out of them. Since then we have switched to B10 and no animal fat Bio, so far ok. Sorry comment not about storage, but just bio- brought back nightmares.
well if it doesnt feel right, dont do it. I know the dueces have some special quirks, but they are still just trucks. ok, nobody shoot me for saying that..:)
Good that you asked before tearing something up though.
Have you ever driving a manual transmission vehicle before? Ive never seen a clutch that didnt have to be slipped some. Gee wiz why have a clutch just jamn it in gear.! Seriously, start off in first or second just like any other truck. Let it out, get it moving. Shouldnt ride any clutch alot...
Seems no matter the state, there is gray area. If you could get something from laws and rules that are clear from the states, we'd get you to work on other issues as well
Does your medical card in TN have no expiration?? It is tricky smetimes dealing with federal and state rules, Some states, like Md are more strict than the federal rules.
For what its worth, on the vehicle inspections, My shop is a mile from the scales, our trucks are inspected constantly...
I could be wrong but I think all the law says is a warning device. Dont have book with me so cant check. I do know DOT inspectors listen for the alarm for low psi warning. Never had one look for a light. My point is, if it had it. I wouldnt change it, add a light would do no harm, but take...
I dont know why that buzzer seems to bother some folks. I start up the truck, walk around it, kick the tires, by then its done. Guess working on trucks all my life i'm used to the noise, just doesnt bother me. Plus a light you may not notice, the buzzer WILL get your attention. But just my 2...
You can also check the sprags by jacking up one front wheel. It will only roll free in one direction and lock in the oppsite direction depending on if you have trans in neautral/forward gear and the opposite if in reverse. I think I got that right!! The forward sprag is engaged in neutral or any...
In Md, it doesn't mention air brakes as a requirment for CDL, just that you have to have that endorsement. It simply says any vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs requires CDL. So in Md you would need to a CDL to drive a 5 ton, but not a duece. Having said that, my registration for my 5 ton, has...
I agree with all, as much as we have to fight to the keep the right to have them. I dont want something I did to hurt the hobby. So I am also careful and stay out of everybodys way, almost like riding a motorcycle. I often take back roads and stay off the highways especially at night or heavy...
I looked for a friend thats a farmer for a M818 and found nothing close on GL, so guess they may be getting close to being all gone too. Found some M916, M931's and 920's for him to look at.
